Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Hasselbach
Hi Kristen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Ohio where I got my cosmetology license when I was 17. My mother Joni was a very talented hairstylist and my father worked for a hair company so I literally grew up in the hair industry. Most weekends my brother and I would go with my mom and dad to hair shows or classes where my mom would teach on stage to other hairstylist! I was lucky to have someone show me so much so young!! I moved to LA when I was 22 with hopes to become a celebrity hairstylist! I also just knew I needed to expand and find new opportunities! I have worked in the valley as a hairstylist for the last 12 years where have been able to achieve my goal of becoming a hairstylist to the stars! I’ve worked with some extremely successful songwriters/ actors/models/directors and brand owners. I have built beautiful relationships with all of my gorgeous clients! Soon after my arrival to LA I attended make up designory (M.U.D) in Burbank where I learned proper techniques for makeup for film and TV. Outside of hair I have I have had quite a journey since coming to LA. I was randomly signed to Willhemina as a curve model and have dipped my toes in the modeling circuit. I have continued to grow outside of the beauty industry! I created a jewelry line back In 2022 that is focused on a more sustainable approach by using vintage and antique materials! @madebymooni it’s a work in progress but it’s my baby.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely have struggled with imposter syndrome at some point. It’s difficult to come from Ohio to LA where there is such a stark contrast in the way of life. Believing that I am good enough and I do belong in any space.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m known for my more alternative hairstyles from funky creative colors to shaggy mullets. I also do an amazing pixi cut and I do beautiful blondes. I’m the most proud of my ability to connect and listen to my clients so that I can understand how they want to look and feel. I think listening to your clients is the most important part of any service
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think curiosity, curiosity brings me to understanding it brings me to new territory it brings me to new trends and new opportunities.
