Check Out Jenn Page & John Curtis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Page & John Curtis.

Hi Jenn & John, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The show was born out of a need for us to have a safe space to argue about any and all things Nerd. Before the podcast, we’d have full-blown out arguments over things like whether or not Terminator: Dark Fate was a sequel or a reboot (we still don’t agree on the answer to this day). The show became a fun place to have those arguments, especially when we incorporated the live audience to weigh in on the verdicts. For over two years now, we have tried to bring Nerd Couple fun to the lives of whoever will tune in. We even recently joined TikTok (*shivers*). Everything we do is in the name of good fun and hoping to bring smiles to the faces of those who watch.

We have found that letting our Nerd flags fly so publicly has only deepened our love for all things Nerd culture. The Nerd community, for the most part, is filled with fun-loving, open-for-anything people and it’s a wonderful community to be a part of. We were even encouraged to take our Nerd love to whole new heights when our close friends dressed in cosplay and joined us for our small Star Wars/Wizarding World crossover wedding. We were dressed in costumes and swapped Star Wars-themed wedding bands.

One of our favorite things to do is attend live events where Nerds congregate. The Nerd Couple Show was recently featured at LeakyCon: a convention for all things Wizarding World. We hosted a live event where an audience of Harry Potter fans had a blast with our interactive Wizarding World Nerd Dome. We get the greatest joy from bringing fun to our fellow Nerds.

So what is our story? We hope our story is one of love and fun. And if our story and what we do through The Nerd Couple Show can bring others a little light and joy in their day, then our story is definitely one with a happy ending.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Once we decided we wanted to take the show to the next level, we decided to upgrade everything and that was no easy task. We decided to make it a live show with audience participation. So that presented a whole new format challenge: How do you keep your live audience engaged while at the same time serving people who catch the show later either via YouTube or Facebook or as a podcast. Changing up the show also came with a decision to rebrand. We took our very “on the nose” name of Two Nerds in a Garage (we literally shoot the show in our garage studio so that was the origin of our first name). And lastly, we remodeled the media mechanics of the show. New looks, new special effects, sketches. Any company will tell you that significant upgrades come with significant price tags. The struggles are real, but they keep us energized and focused on delivering a great show.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Outside of The Nerd Couple Show, we are both industry creatives living in the hub of entertainment, Los Angeles. We are both in film and TV: Jenn a director and John an actor. Jenn has directed over 130 projects including six distributed feature films. John has been seen on major TV shows.

We have worked on numerous projects together outside of The Nerd Couple Show. Our last feature film, starring Shannon Elizabeth and Kadeem Hardison, “Playing with Beethoven” released in theaters last year and can now be seen On Demand. We are currently writing a space adventure film together.

Most recently we launched The Working Director with the goal of helping emerging filmmakers become working directors faster. Jenn has put 10 years of lessons into a video course, and the directors get weekly coaching with her. We’ve already seen directors getting their first paycheck and it only launched a month ago.

Whatever our endeavors, we always find a way to help one another succeed.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Supporting us, even collaborating with us, can be as simple as tuning in to the show and commenting in the chat. Our Nerds are valued contributing members of our show every week. Our Nerd community, which we grow via our Facebook Group “The Nerd Couple Show,” is a fun place to join. And of course, sponsors donating swag for giveaways to our Nerds.
