Check Out Jay Macc’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Macc.

Hi Jay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Ima creator based out of South Central LA, I started making youtube content in the pandemic and I wrote my first script that I wanted to bring to life. The story I came up with is called “A DAY ON THE BLOCK” the concept is heavily influenced by Ice Cubes “Friday” because growing up, I didn’t have cable so my younger brother had the directors cut of Friday and we would always watch it so we knew it from front to back. I ended up making “A DAY ON THE BLOCK” and referring to it as my own version of Friday in a modern day South Central. A DAY ON THE BLOCK series has north of 2 thousand views on youtube and likewise, with the promotions I put together myself on my Instagram (@jaaaymacc) I created/directed/marketed everything in this series and I think you guys should give it a view if you can relate to growing up in LA.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, anything worthwhile is gone test you and see your dedication to it. I was tested in that way yanno just trusting my gut with everything because it was nobody guiding me with the project. Its something I went through every phase with whether it was me holding out and not dropping anything on my Instagram for a month to prepare for a rollout or somebody coming up to me that I don’t know and telling me that they like what I created and it moved them in a way. Stay down and trust yo gut!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Ima artist. I’m known for being the face of the “A DAY ON THE BLOCK” movement but I can play any role from creative direction to story writing to trying to hold a camera myself because when you working towards a goal on a project ima play any role I can to help this project be great. I’ve worked with local artists and brands: I was a creative director in a music video for my fellow EVGLE and my homie Jay Millian. I’ve worked with MadeByMia on a few of her drops. I’m a part of ActRite Los Angeles team. and just working with other creative on whatever we can touch bases on. I want to get into everything so whoever hits me with an idea, let’s work!

Overall though I’m pretty proud of my “A DAY ON THE BLOCK” release just because I created that from the ground up just wanting to tell a story but when people really locked in with me and expressed what it meant to them, it was pretty cool I had a dude from Miami hit me up and show love just because he stumbled across my project.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The authenticity. Every corner in LA is history to someone somewhere and we all share some experiences as far as growing up here. Places like the Slauson Mall, Earles, Toms Liquor. Only thing I don’t like obviously the violence but you know, you just learn how to be more preserved.
