Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Maximova
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a mosaic mural artist I’m honored to have artworks in areas around the Valley and downtown LA. So far I’ve lived in this area for twenty two years and it’s delightful to find new surprises all the time. This area is so rich in cultural gems and natural splendor it’s hard to imagine planting a flag elsewhere. In this vicinity we’re close to fellow artists who work in fine and commercial art involving (among other media) poetry, fabric, metal, performance, clay, photography, digital media, paint, collage and audio. LA county is a vibrant area enhanced by terrific ethnic and creative diversity.
.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Glass is a challenging material, working with it as a creative medium means making friends with both its strength and its potential to harm. It also boasts profound durability and dazzling beauty so on balance it’s a joy to work with and day after day I return for the dance. I stock a lot of bandaids and am mindful of necessary eye, hand and foot protection.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Mosaic is a meditative process that takes time and care to create. The marriage of stained glass and cementitous mortar and grout means mosaic projects are both dazzlingly beautiful and deeply durable.
Some of my stained glass mosaic murals include custom donor walls that raise funds for nonprofit organizations. Others enhance the locations of terrific organizations including Learning Works Charter School and Homeboy Industries.
