Check Out FILFURY’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to FILFURY.

FILFURY, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story is an ever-growing series of country and city hops chasing the dream… I’m originally from Birmingham in the UK, an industrial town where’s its pretty grey (the opposite to LA) and in the 90s not that many creative opportunities… I always felt there was more of a world to see, so went on a mission… I’m a long way from home these days…

TBH, my design story began with getting kicked out of school for making fake IDs… I just didn’t realize it at the time. That eventually lead to studying design and I’ve never looked back. Once I found what made me, I went for it. I’m stupid hungry, super ambitious and passionate for the craft I get to call my job. It’s taken me all over the world, from the UK to Australia, Europe and now the US.

I’ve collected a family along the way… an amazing wife, two beautiful kids and a crazy dog named Sonic… but it’s time to stop country hopping for now and settle, build and put down some roots here in LA. I love LA.

A story I don’t tell that often is how I became a director – and I think it’s a good lesson for those trying to find their own way. Back in 2013, I was working as a designer on a campaign and the live-action director literally had stage fright the morning of the shoot… I stepped in and directed 9 brand films over 3 days, a baptism of fire… so you gotta always be ready for your time to shine to take those opportunities… I never looked back.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not smooth at all… but that’s the fun bit right?! Growth… It’s cliche to say but without the downs, I wouldn’t have enjoyed the ups. I work really hard, I love what I do but I’ve always been driven to want to be the best, or at least the best version of myself. So that’s been tough, making the right career moves, chasing the right jobs, moving at the right time… the balance of choosing money vs. love… I’ve made some mistakes but I’m moving forward…

We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist, designer and director. I’m the ECD at Untold Studios here in Culver City, LA.

As an artist, I’m best known for creating bold, graphic art. I’ve gained international recognition for my work, which sees me combine traditional art techniques with digital technology and a focus on pop culture. In other words, I love to make cool shit that makes me happy. Creating art with the things I’m passionate about… nothing too deep here… sneakers, cars and basketball 🙂

I recently asked Chat GPT to write me a bio and it said this – One of FILFURY’s signature techniques is “sneaker hacking,” in which he transforms sneakers and other footwear into intricate sculptures and artworks. So there you go… I’m a sneaker-hacker.

As a director, I bring my art approach to live-action and VFX. Clean, bold, graphic image-making with a narrative. I absolutely love directing… something I never thought I’d be doing when growing up… but here I am. I’m grateful. I direct everything from car commercials, luxury motion design, lifestyle films, main titles and music videos – all with my subtle touch to make the creative undeniably FILFURY. I’ve worked with some incredible brands and people… Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Epic Games, Nike, Adidas, Ralph Lauren, Estée Lauder… and then had the pleasure of connecting with talent such as Idris Elba, Ana de Armas, JHUS, MJ COLE, 24K GLDN, LIL BABY, LIL TJAY, Koffee, Davido…

I don’t have a particular project I’m most proud of exactly, more so the journey and the passion I have for creating… It’s the collection of work altogether that I’m most proud of, it shows my growth and mistakes and what I need to do to keep evolving and learning… I love to make stuff and especially with nice people.

What sets me apart from others? There’s only one FILFURY 🙂 I’ll go hard and fight for the highest of execution levels at all times, be that a small/zero money project or one with a healthy budget… I have an unhealthy obsession for perfection.

Any big plans?
The youth are the future. The passing of the torch… working with younger people, helping them grow, learn and elevate. It’s so inspiring being around them, and if I do my job correctly they’ll be greater than me. I’ve got a small team of hungry young creatives and it’s so rewarding watching them rise. I want to put all my energy into this and to helping others. I’ve done some really cool stuff and worked with some amazing people – but the next steps for me are really about lifting up those around me.

Of course, I’m still insanely hungry for personal growth, but let’s bring everyone along with me is the vibe.
