Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Hill
Hi Faith, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I went to beauty school and high school at the same time. Through a program where i lived i was able to start beauty school at 16 during my junior and senior year of high school. So i got my cosmetology license a couple months before i graduated high school at 17! I’m currently 28 and have been in this industry for 10 years and wouldn’t change it for the world. The beauty industry is all I’ve ever worked in since i was lucky enough to get my start so young. I first started as a barber for the first couple years where i managed the luxury barbershop i worked at, at just 18 years old. Then transitioned into assisting for an owner of a salon in studio city to get back into hair color and women’s services. I assisted for about a year and decided to rent my own chair at a salon in the town i live in and really started building my clientele there for the next five years. For the last year or so i opened my own studio called Happy Hair Society in Santa Clarita and have never been happier! I love having my own business and getting to connect with all kinds of people throughout my 10 years! I do lots of color especially lived in blonding and extensions. I also do tons of makeup and styling for weddings, photo shoots, and clients special events!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working in this industry means working with a lot of different personalities and can be very competitive. I have been lucky enough to meet lifelong friends that were co workers or even my clients that i have been able to build close relationships with while being their stylist. I have definitely worked for bosses and co stylist that weren’t very nice and encouraged bully like behavior in the salon environment. But what i have learned from that struggle is remaining true to your self and craft with always come out on top and clients for sure see that and stick with you throughout the years. Being a kind and thoughtful person goes a long way in this business and those are the successful stylist in my book. Being bullied in a salon environment for many years is what led me to open my own studio where i got to choose the dynamic and vibe of my surroundings. All are welcome at Happy Hair Society no matter what but there is only room for positivity and encouragement of others to succeed!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in lived in color and extensions, especially blonding services. I love seeing clients inspiration pictures and bringing it to life in a custom way for each and every client that is best suited to their starting canvas. The type of color that is very blended and can grow seamlessly with your natural hair growth is my favorite thing to do. Anything that has to do with foiling, sign me up! Making people feel like their best self is one of the best parts of my job and is so special to me. Life is hard sometimes so i feel lucky to be able to provide a service where people get to escape for a couple hours and chat and vent and leave feeling better than when they first came in. Building the relationships with clients and getting to do all of their hair and or makeup through my 10 years is so cool to me. I’ve been able to part of so many special events and times with clients and vice versa! Clients have been there for me and throughout my career journey and have seen me grow into the stylist i am today! I think I’m most proud of is all the hard work I’ve put into making my career successful from a young age and preserving through all the struggles of people trying to bring me down along my journey but coming out better for it. This industry can be cut throat but once you’re on the other side of it, it is so rewarding and I’m so lucky i got to make a passion a career that i get to do everyday!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up i was always the social butterfly who loved just chatting and interacting with others. I was always the kid who got good grades but the one comment on my report cards from my teachers is that i was too chatty in class. I like to think I’ve never met a stranger because they would move my seat in class but i saw that as an opportunity to make a new friend. Makes sense why i chose a profession where i get to talk to people all day! I’ve always had friends of all kinds because i am a very open and accepting person! I’ve always been stubborn but in a way that if i have my mind set on something i make it happen and that’s something I’ve always have had since a young age. I’ve always been a creative person as well so as a kid i loved any and all crafts and like to try a little bit of everything. I loved anything hands on whether it was sewing with my grandma when i was young or her teaching me to build something from scratch. I like to think i got my creativeness and stubbornness to do things myself from her.
