Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Cabrera.
Hi Emily, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started in the Beauty/Brow industry back in March 2021 when I took my first Permanent Makeup Course with Natasha Castenada (@tashsalon). At the time, I was working as a receptionist for a construction company but got laid off due to COVID. I instantly found my passion for brows, which was so exciting, I never thought I’d see myself doing something within the beauty industry. After being certified, I made an IG account for my business, my business name just came to me very quickly since I wanted to incorporate my name, and all I wanted to do was enhance people’s natural beauty. I thought it was a bit clever to name it EMHANCEDBEAUTY. At the time, I was recently engaged and quickly married within a month and found out I was also pregnant with my beautiful little girl. It was such a scary but also exciting time to become a wife, mom, and business owner all in the same year. I have always known I wanted to have a family and kids to be with at all times, but I also wanted to have an income, and something of that was mine, as long as it was something I was truly passionate about. My husband and dad fixed up the garage for me and made it into my own studio. I was working throughout my pregnancy, but it was a very complicated pregnancy that led me to slow down a bit. This made me very nervous for my business, but I took that time to take other courses and expand my knowledge, which is how I was sure I loooved doing brows! There were many times that I would doubt myself, cry myself to sleep, and cry to my husband about how badly I wanted this, and he would tell me, “Be patient; your time will come.” Once I had my daughter, I took a few weeks off, and I had so many people messaging me, wanting me to do their brows. Yes, my husband does tell me now, “I told you so.” As time has gone by, I’ve kept getting busier and busier, and I thank God every single day after a busy or even slow day with clients. I truly mean it when I say my business and my clients helped me get through hard times. I tell my clients all the time, beauty therapy for you is internal therapy for me. I am so grateful for all the support I have been blessed with from my husband, my family, friends, clients, and non-clients who simply put my name out there.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road by any means, but I enjoy a challenge when I really want something. Becoming a mom has been the hardest and most motivating experience ever. I wasn’t sure my business would do any good because of my limited availability, but my clients love that I work evenings and often offer late appointments because they can make it after work, giving them extra time to unwind, relax, and/or vent. I love my business and what I do; however, I am a mom and a wife first, and if that means I have to slow down at times, then that’s what I will do, but I have a family and husband that help tremendously with my daughter so I can still do what I love and have some girl time (my clients).
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So, I am a Brow Artist. I specialize in Brow Laminations, Tint & Wax, Permanent Makeup (Microblading and Ombre Brows), and Lash lifts with Tint. I am known for creating natural-style brows. I always tell my clients, especially new clients, “I am not a salesperson, don’t ever feel obligated to add more services on top.” I will always be completely honest if I feel they do not need a specific add-on and they appreciate that. At the end of the day, I want each of my clients to have a wonderful experience, love their own brows, come back and refer others. They are my best marketing. I strive for perfection every time, giving my clients detailed information prior to their appointment, sending them home with aftercare, things they can’t expect, and guiding them in different ways they can style their brows and have fun with them. I am so proud of simply just never giving up and that I kept going even when I had self-doubt, and that I always push myself out of my own comfort zone.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
There’s so much I would like to still accomplish! I think I am very open with all of my clients and other artists in the industry as well. There is plenty of room to grow and thrive, and I believe that if I am open and helpful in any way to others, I will receive the same back tenfold. I am currently working on offering courses to teach others and help them grow, become their own boss, and push themselves out of their own comfort zones.
