Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Saturn.
Hi Eddie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Eddie Saturn, I am from Saturn, landed in Massachusetts, Earth + I consider myself more of a creative director than a musician, I just happen to channel my creativity through song the best right now. I say this because when I was young, I had my hand on anything that involved creativity. I would write fanfictions that would get decent global acclaim [wrote a Kingdom Hearts one that made it to the official fan Wikipedia!], create album covers + tracklists for albums I’d never actually write music for, draw all types of styles + even make fake restaurant menus when I was little.
In high school, I would channel my creative direction skills into rap. I loved poetry already, but after getting challenged to a rap battle by someone using Lil Wayne bars, I immediately fell in love with the art of rap. That lead me to learn production, no one had beats I liked or seemed to want to work with me. Then that lead me to needing mixing. And eventually, I was putting out my own music through + through, artwork included. Ultimately, the expenses of being an artist made me a jack-of-all-trades artist.
After several years of making music, I struggled to find success that made me happy. Success that made me money. Partly because I lied to myself that I didn’t want money for the art + 100% because I didn’t take myself seriously. I would put out my first body of work called “[saline] EP” in 2019 then kind of fall into the routine of being a part-time artist. In 2022, after returning back to work at the evil MGM, I met a friend that would mutually spark my flame back on to be an artist as I did to his flame. We both made an escape plan, to leave the dream of the society + return to our own dreams [loosely quoting “The Four Agreements” here]. In September, after a successful quarter or two of doing shows, gaining a fan base again + finishing up the best music I have ever made, I left MGM to pursue being a full-time artist. My plan was originally to start part-time at my friends’ coffee shop and then keep doing shows until I could survive off of gigging. But they didn’t have work for me right away. This made me realize that besides my girlfriend in Massachusetts, I had nothing binding me there. Then the real plan to get back to my dream hatched! I would drive to LA + at my highest seriousness pursue being a full-time artist. So I did + here I am on my feet.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been entirely smooth obviously BUT I tend to be stoic. And with that I think everything has lead me here on top of things. Every time I zoom out after going through transition, that’s always the case. BUT I know what this question means, I definitely struggled along the way + still got more to go through I’m sure. For instance, right now, I’m living out of my car. That’s all that Saturn HQ gave me on this mission. I also used to have a rap group. I was planning on starting a label. It was my second iteration of the group + my second attempt to find success in the industry, this time as a label head instead of head artist. It almost worked except- guess….that’s right creative differences! That was rough. Spent so much time + money on those guys. But again, it ultimately leads me here. I took the shit I learned trying to start a label to help me as a solo artist one more time. And I think slowly it’s working!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Damn. This one might be verbose. Similar to my first answer which also stated that I am really a creative director, meaning I help creators or companies or people triangulate a few ideas into one concise thing. This also means I like to express myself artistically in many different art forms. I make music for sure. I write stories. I make graphic art. And I eventually want to be a filmmaker. A lot of my stories I plan on bringing to the film world. I have a huuuuge cinematic universe in the works.
I definitely specialize in music though. That is how I want to establish creative credibility. My upcoming album “Dork.” will feature a short film, merchandise I’ll design + a ton of crossovers between the fictional world I create with this world. I am incredibly proud of my curation skills all across the board but especially in curating the people I work with. I have a great dedicated team though I am mostly doing this myself. The music is the best music I have made + I think it’s on a cutting edge that brings a sound that has become popular [hyperpop] but to a high level setting. I think that’s what gives me an edge on top of how multifaceted my art is. The same things that make Tyler, The Creator pop out are in me + then some!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
1. Fill yourself with the truth then listen to yourself, only yourself!
2. Only take advice from someone you’re trying to be like or has done what you need help with.
3. Double down!
