Check Out Dr. Vivian “Liv by Viv” Rodriguez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Vivian “Liv by Viv” Rodriguez

Hi Dr. Vivian “Liv by Viv”, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am described as, an inspiring Afro-Latina blogger, live streamer, podcaster, and psychologist breaking barriers for underrepresented midsize women of color in Los Angeles. With a passion for life, style for midsize and curves, beauty, and fitness, I have been creating content since 2016, sharing my journey of joy and authenticity. A proud SoCal resident since the age of three, my roots trace back to my immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic.

“My content is all about choosing joy,” I share with a smile. “People always say, ‘You look so happy’ when they watch my videos. That’s exactly the point.”

My creative journey kicked off just after my 40th birthday, which I fondly call a “midlife creative burst” rather than a crisis. I started my blog, Liv by Viv. This surge of creativity also led to the launch of my popular podcast, “Don’t Mix In,” a space for independent women to discuss style, substance, and the complexities of thriving authentically.

Balancing a full-time job, motherhood, marriage, and earning a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, I became a multitasking machine. “Yes, lots of coffee was involved,” I often tell people with a laugh. When asked how I describe myself, I say, “If Brene Brown and Jackie Brown had a baby, that would be me.”

My hope is that my vibrant content inspires and proves that age, size, and background are not barriers but beautiful facets of a dynamic and joyful life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Finding balance while trying to do it all is an ongoing challenge. Being multi-passionate can be exciting, but it can also lead to burnout. I’ve discovered that I’m at my best when I adjust my pace as needed. I follow the ebb and flow of each season and let that guide my content creation.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am known for my vibrant and joyful content, which stands out because I blend my knowledge of psychology, optimism, and sense of style. I proudly represent Afro-Latinas and women over forty.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Pasadena is a dynamic city with so much to offer! From coffee shops to museums, it has it all. You can easily walk to most spots or take the metro. What I like least is the traffic when you do have to drive. But that is part of living in SoCal!
