Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Surkova.
Hi Anastasia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a very artistic person. Growing up, I went to a music academy, and creativity was always at the center of my life. Music, fashion, film, and art were the things that inspired me the most from a really young age. That eventually led me to study Fashion Marketing in college while also minoring in Film, because I’ve always loved both the visual and storytelling side of creativity.
After graduating, I honestly felt a little lost trying to fit myself into a traditional career path. Even within the entertainment or fashion industries, the idea of a simple 9-to-5 never fully aligned with who I am. I’m a very multi-passionate creative person, and I realized I wanted a career where I could explore all sides of myself instead of limiting myself to one role.
That’s what led me to co-found VOID with my best friend, a creative house where we creative direct and produce visuals for fashion, culture, and music brands/ artists. VOID became an extension of us and our creativity a space where we can bring ideas and worlds to life through creative direction, styling, visual storytelling, and collaborations with other artists. At the same time, I still love being in front of the camera and expressing myself through content and fashion. I think that balance between being the creative mind behind projects while also being part of the visual story is what makes everything feel the most authentic to me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing all of my passions and creative goals at once. Going freelance and building something of your own sounds exciting, but it requires a huge amount of discipline, consistency, and time management. I often find myself fluctuating between overworking and putting pressure on every project, or slowing down and feeling like I’m not doing enough.
Being a multi-passionate creative can feel overwhelming because I care deeply about so many different things and I want to give each one my full attention. Another challenge has been finding the right collaborators, brands, and first clients while building something from the ground up. But even through the uncertainty, I know it’s all going to be worth it in the end.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a content creator, stylist, and co-founder of VOID, a creative house focused on visual storytelling through fashion, art, and culture. A lot of my content centers around what it’s like being in your early 20s, figuring out who you are, what you want, and how to build a life that feels authentic to you. I love showing different sides of my passions through fashion, music, creative direction, and everyday life.
As a stylist and creative, I’m especially drawn to storytelling through fashion and visuals. Through VOID, my best friend and I bring concepts to life through editorials, styling, creative direction, and collaborations with artists and brands.
What sets me apart is the perspective I bring to my work. I grew up in a small Eastern European village, taught myself English, and eventually moved to Los Angeles, the city I dreamed about for years. That journey shaped the way I see the world and create.
More than anything, I want my work to inspire girls like me, people who grew up shy, different, or afraid to fully be themselves. I want them to know it’s possible to create your own path and be proud of every part of who you are.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
One thing I’ve learned is that, no matter how corny it sounds, everything really does happen for a reason. Even when things don’t make sense in the moment, eventually you look back and realize the setbacks, failures, and “no’s” were shaping you into the person you needed to become to achieve your dreams.
I’d also say to just keep going one step at a time and act on your passions instead of waiting for the perfect moment. People love to say that every industry is oversaturated, but the truth is there’s genuinely no one else like you. If you stay authentic to yourself and create from a real place, the right people will connect with it.
