Check Out Adam Randall’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Randall

Hi Adam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I studied cosmetology at Marinello beauty school in Sacramento, ca and graduated in 2011. I was only 20 and didn’t really know where I wanted to take my career yet. I moved to LA a couple times before when I was younger, but it just never worked out. I got involved in hard drugs, lost focus of life, and was tarnishing my reliability as an artist in the process. At 27 I got clean, reestablished my love for the hair, and opened a salon and ran it for almost 5 years. I decided to close that chapter, and relocate myself in Los Angeles where I felt I had unfinished business. The curiousity of where I could’ve taken my career when I first attempted living in LA over 10 years ago made me want to try one last time. Now I’ve been here for 3 years, working at an amazing Extension salon in Hollywood, called Hair Boss. I also work for Glamsquad on the special events team, styling for award shows, private events, weddings and more

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The hardest time was honestly the addiction. I proved to myself that you can get back up if you fall. Grateful to have made it out alive and have the life that I get to live now.
After doing hair for 14 years, I’m sure most people at some point question whether or not doing the same thing as a career is what will continue to make us happy. And what I’ve realized is that I’ll never stop doing hair, but I will add more forms of art in my tool belt. I’ll be starting the process of becoming a tattoo artist as well, as a passion project.
I call myself an artist, not just a hair stylist, because anything I see/create in my mind, I can turn it into reality with my hands, and whatever tool from my belt that I choose to use.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Art comes in many forms for me. From passion projects to professional careers.
Professionally, I do hair all day every day. Mainly specializing in hair extensions and styling. I do both men’s and women’s cuts, fashion colors, but my passion in the industry is truly with hair extensions and styling for events or editorial, shows, etc.

Most of the time the first thing people ask me about what I do when they see me is if I’m a tattoo artist, because I’m covered in them. I’ve always had the desire to become a tattoo artist, I just never took the time out of my hair career to get that going. Now I’m making that a reality this year and I’m very excited about the changes to come

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I think of mentors as friends. I say that because most of the people I look up to in life, are the closest people to me. We learn so much from the people we surround ourselves with. If you need to reach outside for a mentor, I would look at your vision boards, look at the artists that create those inspirations for you, follow them, reach out, as questions. You never know what may come from putting yourself out there and showing your hunger for knowledge of more.
