Today we’d like to introduce you to Amir Shavon.
Hi Amir, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I was always fascinated with fashion, my sister was a fashion merchandise major so she would always come home with these cool projects. She then asked me and my brother if she could style us and take pics of us. I was super excited cause at the time one of our fav shows was ANTM. So that was my very first time being in front of the camera. I never thought too much about actually taking modeling serious cause who was I kidding? Fast forward to college, I was walking to class and this guy stopped me and asked if he could take a pic of my outfit for his IG page. He would later ask me to be one of his models in this fashion show he was a part of. So I went to the tryouts and I loved it! We became best friends and we would spend our days finding looks to dress me up in and snapping pictures. I started loving what we were doing so much that I decided this is what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. So here we are… in LA chasing my dream.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hahaha I wish! The biggest struggle has been believing in myself. Modeling looks easy but it’s not. You have to believe in yourself because if you don’t, it’ll show all in the photos.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Outside of modeling, I got a cool opportunity to work for the pioneer Karl Kani. Though it’s only been a solid month it feels like a lifetime, lol. I worked for him and am now working as a nurse assistant for money. I’m still working on getting my foot in the door in the model industry but I’m almost there I can feel it. The most thing I’m proud of is not giving up. I think the biggest thing that sets me apart from others is my style and personality. You can’t put me under one umbrella when it comes to my style, you never know what you’ll get. Now my personality… I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have a good time with me. I also like to uplift others and give off good energy.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Tumblr is my fav app, I love looking at photos and art on there. My fav book… “the shack” it’s a spiritual/religious book but so good and eye-opening.
