Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Erskin.
Aaron, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I first got into photography in middle school and was typically taking pictures every day. I didn’t have my own camera at the time, so I was taking pictures with my iPhone. Me and my friends would ride around town on our bikes, and I would take pictures of them and the places that we went to. I was really into landscape photography and enjoyed capturing sunsets and different parts of my town. This lasted a while until my junior year of high school where I was able to finally get my own camera. My first camera was a Canon Rebel t6, and this is where I realized my huge passion for taking portraits and events. In the beginning, I was mainly doing it for fun, but by senior year I was asked to take senior pictures for one of my friends. I said yes and instantly fell in love with capturing different faces and the different stories you could tell with every picture. I posted a few of the pictures on my Instagram and got a lot of support from it. This is when I realized that I wanted to do this more and invest more time into taking pictures of people. Once I hit my first year of college, I was able to save up enough money to buy own camera which was the Canon 80 D. Ever since then, I’ve been taking pictures of people and events all around my town and have enjoyed every part of it.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a freelance photographer from Santa Clarita, California. I specialize in portrait photography, but I am capable of taking pictures for events, lifestyles, sports, and products. I take pictures because I love creating and capturing special moments that show a special or unique story behind it and appreciate how meaningful pictures can actually be. I believe that pictures hold a lot of power and meaning to them because they will always have a story to tell or a reason for why the picture is taken. Looking back at old pictures is something that everyone enjoys, and I want to be able to give people joy from looking back at pictures that I took and give them a feeling of bliss and happiness. I have many inspirations when it comes to photography whether it is a few of my friends or professional/famous photographers. I believe that is the beauty of photography because everyone looks at it a different way, this makes you inspired from other people’s work and realize that there is more than one way at looking at specific things. I hope the things that people take away from my work is that I truly try to look at things differently and want to create amazing photos for all kinds of people and places. I think one thing you should know about my work is that I try to make every picture different and make every picture unique. I want to be able to show how meaningful pictures can really be and how each picture can have a different story.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
I believe it is hard to become an artist or creator in today’s age due to how competitive it is. There are so many amazing creators out there who are just as passionate about creating as I am. I believe life has become harder for artists these last recent years, but I do believe it is getting more acknowledgment than it ever has. Cities can support and look for creators more often to help them stay creating and do what they love to do. Every person who is a creator or artist has a passion or motive to why they create the things that they do. This is why I believe that creators and artists are so important to the community because it allows people to become inspired by their work and influence others to express their creative sides as well.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
All of work is posted on my Instagram which is @aaronerskin. This is where I post all of my pictures and projects whether it is portraits, products, or even sports.
