Prestige. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Prestige. , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I woud say finding my artistic sound has been my proudest moment thus far. I’ve been consistently perfecting my craft in my music production since 2015, due to the fact that I got weary of either producers not being able to compliment my songwriting, or it was just ridiculously expensive. People are usually positively flabbergasted when they find out I’m my own producer for all of my records.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Prestige., an artist and producer native to Inglewood, CA. My artistry is primarily urban, focusing on West Coast Hip-Hop with essences of Neo-Soul, R&B, and G-Funk. I am a rapper, songwriter, singer and producer, and currently working on an album due to release before the end of 2025. I also play piano (since the age of 11) and drums. I am independent artist and founder of 2:22 Entertainment, a music and multimedia company.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I stopped believing in having to make myself small in order for others to feel comfortable. There’s been multiple occasions where my confidence was constantly mistaken for arrogance or cockiness, and I used to blame myself for it. However, I shouldn’t have to dim my light for others who are comfortable living in darkness. Once I got over that mentality, I realized that my gift is powerful and that I will always attract the people that are meant to be in my life.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Vulnerability in my art. I used to be caught up in having such a picture-perfect profile to where I was suppressing raw emotion that so many others needed. Your gift is meant to be given away, not kept for yourself. Nowadays I have no problem detailing some of the most monumental moments of my life because more than likely, the listeners will relate to it over your typical radio record.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
God and mutual experiences with my peers. All my homies got relatable stories for me, so sometimes I’ll detail their story vicariously. If that don’t work, I just ask for inspiration from the Most High.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
The climb and how I got this far. Most people will think I had a set master plan or some kind of ultimate strategy. Absolutely not, I just stayed the course and didn’t quit. I’ve seen a lot of artists fall to the wayside, and looking back on it, I’m glad I kept going and bet on myself because I win every time.
