An Inspired Chat with Joey Farese of North Hollywood

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Joey Farese. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Joey, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
When people ask me what I do for work, I love to say I sale handmade American furniture; but the truth is I do so much to achieve that. Most of my day is spent creating purchase orders, talking with my builders, and chatting with customers about what their dream outdoor space looks like.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is joey Farese and i am the founder of American Patio Designs. Our brand is unique because we seamlessly combine the quality of handmade Amish furniture with the connivence of online ordering- something that for decades was not possible. Our direct relationship wiht our Amish builders is what sets us apart from the competition.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was as a young boy standing in front of a lemonade stand. Earlier that week, I was told I couldn’t have a toy from the store because it was too expensive. As customers came flooding to my lemonade stand, I realized that anything is within reach if you apply yourself. Soon enough, I had earned enough money to buy the toy I wanted, and that began my career as an entrepreneur.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
I am very fortunate to work with a great team of Amish builders. Since I am in a consumer facing role, I get a lot of feedback from customers. Many builders are set in their ways – especially Amish builders. However, my team does a great job of listening to feedback and continuously improving their design as needed.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my head builder, Benny. Sure, he is a powerful man, holding the coveted title of head builder; but that is not why I admire him. I admire him because of the passion he pours into his craft. He doesn’t care about the money or the notoriety, his goal is simple – make quality furniture that can be enjoyed for decades to come.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality was real, i would continue doing exactly what I am doing. I do my best every day, and if i had infinity days, I would continue to do my best.
