IRKO shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
IRKO, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’m walking a path that I outlined decades ago. One step at a time, which is the only way to get going on a long journey and get to the destination
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is IRKO, I’m a Multi Platinum Award Winning Audio Engineer. I grew up near Venice, Italy but I have been in the United States for almost 20 years.
Music has taken me around the World and I have been very fortunate to have worked with artists like Ye, Snoop Dogg, TI, Sia, TheWeeknd, Jay-Z and many many more.
I mix amazing music, wear unique bow ties and drive interesting cars.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Seemingly everyone that was around me when I was growing up. Or is just easy to say “I always knew’? haha I don’t have the answer to that but apparently I’ve always been gifted the quality of being unique
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Very many times! The music business is a very harsh field to be in. There’s been so many times where I thought that was it for me. But then I sleep it off and I get back on. You gotta have a thick skin in this line of work for sure!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, people smell fakeness easily. For a behind the scenes kinda guy like me I find it pointless to have some sort of a fake persona. I’m no actor, I’m a music guy!
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I’d like for them to tell the story of all the obstacles I was able to overcome. I’d like for them to tell the story of this crazy journey that took me around the world. The story of a kid leaving his little town to go play with the big guys of the big city of the big country. It’s the story of the Italian guy in the bow tie driving around Los Angeles in crazy cars decades later.
