An Inspired Chat with Ericka Sance of Highland Park

We recently had the chance to connect with Ericka Sance and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ericka , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I would say all three are very important. You can’t be intelligent if your energy isn’t aligned with your intellect. And you can’t have integrity if your mind & your energy isn’t in the right vibration.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Ericka Sance. I am an independent musician. I make songs that sound baroque/psychedelic & “folk/rock”. I’m deeply influenced by 60’s psychedelic rock artists but I also love classical music.
I’ve been making songs independently and releasing them myself. I’m currently working on a double single that is set to be released before the year ends. But sometimes life is unpredictable and since the pandemic I’ve learned to go with the flow since we’re at the mercy of whatever is happening in our world. But yes, hoping that I can release it before the year is over.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I grew up thinking that there was only my family that existed in the planet. And when I grew up and started traveling out of my family’s house, I realised that there were more people in the world. I didn’t know so many people existed and that there were other countries, cultures and other languages.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I don’t want to get personal on here but obviously I’ve been in a few romantic relationships that have been the most painful situations I’ve ever experienced in my life. But we’ll just keep this about the music and not discuss anything personal.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Joking around. Laughing all the time. Not taking anything too seriously until we have to but still with a smile.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
Moving to Spain.
