An Inspired Chat with Christina Barsi of Santa Clarita

We recently had the chance to connect with Christina Barsi and have shared our conversation below.

Christina, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
The version of the business I’m building now I’ve begun creating several times and something has always caused me to pull back…to revert to what was already in front of me that, despite its many challenges, was more comfortable for me. It has taken a few years of this (this year included) of action and retraction around this concept that has been on my heart for a long time. These things are always many-layered but at the core of it – one of the deeper, more personal reasons was fear.

As much as creating something that feels super aligned with who you are at the heart, your gifts and what you deeply believe in seems ideal – there’s a reason people shy away from it, and I found myself on the edge of that cliff often. It can feel exposing. So I’ve decided that if I choose to retract again – it won’t be for these reasons – but rather because the business itself isn’t viable. So now is the time see it through and find out!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Christina Barsi (but everyone just calls me “Barsi”) and the title I most relate to is “artist”. I started out pursuing Theatre and then film as an actress but after realizing how little control I had over my success and creative career – podcasting found me during a time when it wasn’t on anyone’s radar yet.

The year was 2013 and I had turned to writing and studying Quantum Physics for fun, which led to creating a science fiction narrative audio drama (my first podcast) called DIMENSION that then led me to producing a film about the medium of podcasting and the creation of this project. The documentary called Is Anyone Listening – A Podcast Story made it into the festival run, premiering at Scifi London and getting nominated at FilmQuest.

As I was preparing to go to my first film festival in the U.K I had discovered meditation and in particular – Reiki. Which I chose to get certified in later that year and am now a Level II Reiki healer. By this time, I was also a certified Kaizen-Muse Creativity Coach – and by the end of the film festival run, I had quit my day job and began taking on podcast production clients, creativity coaching clients and reiki clients. I wasn’t quite sure which area I would lean into.

But by 2018, podcasting as a medium was having a moment – and I went from working as a freelance podcast producer to eventually forming a full service podcast production agency. I made my decision to lean into podcasting. But also during that first year of my being self-employed, I launched my own podcast, originally called Be Bold Begin which I recently rebranded to Boss Goddess. This is where I kept the conversation going around connecting with purpose, self-care, creativity, healing and what it takes to create transformation in your life.

Fast forward to eight years later, many industry changes and a bout of burnout from running an agency amidst two head injuries and a global pandemic…and I was ready for a new way of serving those who wanted a creative and authentic path forward to bringing their vision to life.

Thanks to my foundation in the arts, in healing, in creativity coaching and over a decade of expertise in the podcasting industry, both as a creator, as a producer and as a CEO – I knew I could create a holistic way to support the soulpreneur or the emerging soulpreneur who is transforming or pivoting towards a new vision or an evolving one -and Boss-Goddess.co was born!

We are creating programs to teach women how to pivot with podcasting, and leverage the medium to build their vision and ventures by leading with their voice, gifts, stories and expertise. The beauty of this approach is it validates and clarifies with an audience, while also building trust with future customers (something every business needs), and the process is rooted in creativity and self-alignment. Secondly, we offer programs that promote healing what came before, connecting with what comes next, creating desired shifts and self-care.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I find this to be an interesting question because I don’t think you’re ever “done” so-to-speak but I have realized that how we connect with our purpose continues to evolve and that there can be many ways we choose to express our purpose, and this can also change during different times of life. For me, I’m exploring how I can bring together the different expressions of my purpose that I’ve explored over the years and how each can work together. This does also require a process of releasing to make space for a new vision to come together and with that also comes a lot of surrendering.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid of your power. and your gifts. Embrace it.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe in magic. I believe that we all have our version of magic and unique gifts, and then when we can tap into them and trust them…anything is possible. I’ve had several moments in my life where I connected with a specific concept in a new way and then it shifts.

Let’s take “love” for example – there was a time in my life when the most important thing I wanted to shift was how I experienced romantic love and I was seeking a partner. After focusing on this energetically in several ways, one day I did a specific meditation that allowed me to feel and experience the essence of love in a new and very vibrant way.

It showed me what to begin looking for and to not settle for a lesser vibration. I connected with my now husband a few months later. One of my gifts is my ability to connect with and trust my intuition – so when I feel into an energetic shift like this – it feels as real as anything that we experience materially. Then results follow to confirm my experience. And this feels like magic!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop worrying and start enjoying. As someone with a “visionary” personality, I tend to live in the future. I love looking forward to something, dreaming about something and living in the spaces of my imagination.

But on the other side of that coin can present a lot of daily worry of whether I’m doing enough of what needs doing to bring that vision into my reality. It’s easy to get caught up in the doing rather than the trusting when my day-to-day has fallen out of alignment.

These past recent years have been riddled with a lot of untangling myself from a vision-past, one that is no longer in alignment – to find my way back to the side of the coin that allows me to be more present and enjoy the moment more and release my grip a little. Creating Boss-Goddess.co has become the vision that feels authentic and aligned to me and if I only had 10 years left to create it – I feel like that would be an enjoyable 10 years.
