We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chase Martinez. Check out our conversation below.
Chase , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently I’ve been on quite an adventure building my music career from the ground up. There’s been a lot of laughs with my team throughout the process, and I felt really proud of us with the release of my new single Play Nice. It was one of those moments that made everything we’ve been working on feel real.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello 👋🏽 My name is Chase Martinez and I’m an independent artist based in the United Kingdom. After taking a two-year break from music, coming back has been such an incredible journey. I started out in a boyband where I always had a full team around me with managers, directors, and stylists. This is the first time I’ve truly taken my career into my own hands and doing that has helped me attract an amazing new team that I’m proud to keep building with. The fear at first was heavy but it ended up empowering me. Now I’ve never felt more ready to take on whatever’s next. As a Filipino artist my biggest goal is to become the next big thing and put Filipino talent on the global map.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
It’s hard to say. My parents told me I’ve been singing and dancing since I was three. I was a prodigy, always entertaining everyone around me. Even though I was clearly enjoying it, I never really knew who I was until recently. Being talented at such a young age, people spent most of my life telling me who I should be, and it became hard to figure out who I truly was. All it took was stepping back and reflecting, seeing myself for who I really am, and accepting him. When I did that, everything started to make sense. Now I’ve decided who I want to be, and here I am talking to you about it. I’ve never felt more aligned.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Multiple times. Even recently, actually. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve doubted myself, questioned my decisions, or even stopped moving because the fear paralysed me. I’ve accepted that I’ll continue to have those feelings throughout this journey. All I have to do is KEEP GOING no matter what. If I could give advice to anyone on a similar path toward their goals and dreams, it would be this: you gain confidence after taking action. Forget the fear and doubt and just KEEP GOING.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to believe that people could help me reach my dreams and make me the biggest artist in the world. While connections in the music industry can definitely help in some ways, I’ve realised that I can give myself that break. I’ve actually proven that to myself recently. No one can hand you your dreams. You have to create the opportunity yourself, and when you do, the right people will find you and grow with you.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I feel like I was definitely born to do what I do. Everything about it has always felt natural to me. There are things no one ever taught me or could teach me, traits and an obsession for music that were just instilled in me from the start. This feels like who I am and who I’ll always be.
