An Inspired Chat with Anya Kalia

We recently had the chance to connect with Anya Kalia and have shared our conversation below.

Anya, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I felt true joy was when I was on set! Whenever I am working, I feel so happy as it is my passion. Every time I have so much fun! I genuinely love meeting other like-minded individuals and learning more about the craft everyday.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Acting has been my passion for the longest time. It makes me feel like my true self and brings me joy. I like connecting with other people. I have loved the art from a young age and will forever continue to enjoy it!

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I performed a scene in front of my family and friends. It was so nice to get into character and share a story that an audience could see. It made me feel happy when people applauded at the end. I felt proud that I could share something I love with others.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to my younger self, I would say to always be persistent. It will get you far in life! This can apply to getting rejected from auditions. Don’t let any “no’s” stop you from moving forward! It is important to always remember why you started in the first place.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I have a belief that if you put your mind toward something, you can achieve it. I believe with consistently auditioning, you will book a project that is meant for you! Having determination is so important in this industry. I will always continue to strive forward.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am doing stuff I love. An example of this is when I am practicing a scene that I will perform. One of my favorite things I love doing is character work as I want to embody the character I am playing to the best of my ability. It helps me feel more connected to the story as a whole.
