We recently had the chance to connect with Alexandra Fresquez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been working with another artist on starting a non profit. It’s called Artists Shaping Tomorrow, and we will be creating artistic opportunities, providing scholarships, and workshops to high school students.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alexandra Fresquez. I’m a pop artist, songwriter, and someone who works to blend my music with impact.Alongside creating and performing . I’m one of the founders of Artists Shaping Tomorrow, a nonprofit providing free opportunities, mentorship, and art scholarships for high school students. I am blessed to say I have amassed millions of views on YouTube, have multiple song placements in tv shows including MTVs Ex On The Beach, Ghosted and CBCs Skymed. I have performed internationally, and been awarded Female Vocalist Of The Year Award by NMHHA and four time nominee for the HMMAs. One of my favorite parts of creating music is song and making music videos
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
One of my ballet teachers growing up. She saw my work ethic, and potential when I was younger. I remember I would practice so hard all the time, and she wanted to move me up classes, and I loved that someone saw how much I wanted something. Unfortunately there were some life events, where she was no longer my teacher, and then I got older, I became a rebellious teenager. I got distracted and went down a road I wish I hadn’t. I wasted time. I lost motivation, and the person who I felt like believed in me. I thought that meant that I didn’t have to believe in myself anymore either, but I’ve come to realize that the only person that you absolutely need to believe in yourself is YOU. You can’t depend on other people to believe your dreams in existence. You have to do it yourself. If you know what you want-stay focused, stay disciplined, and go get your dreams.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I think I’ve caused a lot of the most defining wounds in my life. Not because all of it was my fault, but I like to take accountability for my own emotions and actions in every situation. I’ve healed them through Jesus, through music, and through learning how to gradually forgive myself for the ways I’ve handled different situations in life. We’re not perfect, this is every one of our first times living this life, so you have to give yourself grace too-not just everyone else.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I would hope they would say themselves, God, family, and music. It’s one of the things I’m most grateful for is being surrounded by amazing people.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would quit my nursing job, and happily go into debt doing music haha. It’s something I wrestle with internally. I think it’s my biggest struggle, that drives me insane. I really just want to do music full time and be able to have more time to work on my projects and non profit. It’s my dream, so I hope I can have the courage or opportunity to just do it soon.
