Conversations with Christine Lozano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Lozano

Hi Christine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello! I got started in photography around my twenties, before digital photography was all the rage, Ha! I just aged myself. I taught myself how to use film and even did some darkroom printing on some of my black and whites. Being self taught I had to keep a notebook. I was kinda thrown in to concert photography before anything other, so working with no flash and using only stage lights was a task. Today I still use film , Polaroid and now of course digital photography. I love to capture musicians on stage it’s like capturing an animal in its natural habitat, 🙂 and I also love to shoot Fashion. I love the idea of dress up. And every time I have a shoot scheduled there’s always a story in mind before I start shooting. I love putting the model into a character type role so they can actually feel like they’re doing something, feeling something as opposed to just modeling. To relax, my meditation is photographing landscapes, usually flower art.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Trying to get a show or any acknowledgement is always a daunting task. You do things because your an artist for sure but at the end of the day you would like to be acknowledged and paid for your work. You can sit and think about Van Gogh and go man that guy didn’t make any money till he died…or you can just keep going because making art is what you do. It’s your gym, your church. Leave your mark .

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I can say I specialize in concert photography as well as Fashion editorial. I am most proud of my current running photography show which showcases a specific time on the sunset type in one of the most famous nightclubs in the world. I have photos no one else does and that is special to me. Ive done a small gallery show in LA, and El Paso, TX and I am looking to tour with these photos, so if there’s any galleries out there!! Hello! But seriously I am looking to tour with these never before seen photos in areas when people didn’t have a chance to visit the world famous Viper Room. The show is accompanied with music from the artists in the photos and we really make you feel like you were on the list and got into the club. Also, the Fashion photos Ive done, I’m very happy with. Everyone Ive taken photos of were always game to play and inhibit the character for the shoot. All my photos on my website are for sale and at all sizes so contact if interested. Would love to hear from you.

What makes you happy?
Creating, makes me happy. It’s a workout for my brain especially when I start doubting or comparing myself to others. Social media can bring you down because when you look at it, everyone appears to be doing great. So it’s always good for me to take a break from staring at my phone and pick up a camera and go walk around and photograph something.
