Life & Work with Marian Fayad of North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marian Fayad

Hi Marian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a performing artist from Mexico. It all started when I saw the 2012 movie Les Miserables. I fell in love with the musical. I was notably infatuated with it, so my parents took me to New York City in the summer of 2014 to see it on Broadway. I decided that’s what I wanted to do. When I saw the movie, I was too scared to even admit it. But watching the show live made me admit it to myself.

I started immersing myself more in the world of musicals and films and then began receiving training in the performing arts.

At the beginning of my career, I started doing plays at my school, and then from 2015 to 2019, I was a starring participant in the nationally distinguished “Voces Regias” performances every year; with the academy, I got trained for voice and in short films, with CSC Filmmaker. But even then, I was still not ready to take that leap into the bigger world of the performing arts, so I went to study communications at my local university. After only a month there, I realized I did not want to continue hiding what I wanted, and I refused to live a life of regrets, so I started to apply for performing arts programs in the U.S.

In the meantime, I played a leading role in several projects, such as the play Juliet’s Ghost, which earned me significant recognition as an actress in my home country.

After that, I achieved my goal and came to the U.S. to pursue the arts. My first stop was in a college in Decatur, Illinois. It was a great theater program, but I felt trapped in such a small town, so I decided to transfer to a conservatory in a big city: that’s how I ended up at AMDA College of the Performing Arts in Los Angeles, a college highly represented on Broadway where I had the opportunity to play a lead role in one of their productions. In February of this year, I graduated with a BFA in Performing Arts focusing on musical theatre.

Since then, I’ve been living the life I’ve dreamed of for ten years. With the good, the bad, the ugly, and the magical moments. It’s all part of it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not exactly! Each stage has its new struggles. At the very beginning when I was just 13, the main struggle was being too shy to go after it. And even after taking small steps like signing up for the drama elective at school, I would hold myself back from really getting into it. Through those years of middle school and high school I would let rejection get to my head and felt discouraged constantly and stopped me from putting myself out there and look for opportunities and connections.

Later as I gained more courage to go after it, it has been a challenge to stop getting on my own way and decide that I am enough and I can do it. And of course, after graduation I could not find a single thing in the first couple of months. But things started moving after. It comes and goes. But you have to keep going.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
During the day, I work at Universal Studios in a critical role in the entertainment department. I was a starring participant in the critically recognized annual event Universal Studios Hollywood LuvJam. I also work as a character performer at distinguished events; my recent one was as a Sanderson Sister, Mary Sanderson.

In the meantime, I’ve also been working on TV and I had the great opportunity of starring in an episode of the Emmy Award-winning TV show We The People. After that, I had the honor of having a critical role in the play “The Line” which was presented at the internationally recognized Short and Sweet Festival, a festival for performing arts that originated in Sydney, Australia, and now holds festivals all over the world.

I am currently working as a lead scare actor at the distinguished Halloween attraction Los Angeles Haunted Hayride. I recently had the pleasure of joining the cast of the production of the musical Newsies with the integral role of Tommy Boy at the critically acclaimed theatre company Conundrum Theatre. I also had the privilege of joining the cast of the original play Coming 2 England in a lead role.

I am very excited about it all! I also have an upcoming project for a feature film, “Rose on Fire,” in a lead role. Rehearsals start in early 2025, and I can’t wait to get started!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Being true to oneself.
