Today we’d like to introduce you to Cece King
Hi Cece, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Cece King and I’m originally from the east coast. I was raised in New Jersey and moved out to Los Angeles to attend film school at New York Film Academy. I did a two year conservatory program and studied screenwriting, acting, producing, editing. It was the most inspiring two years of my life. There was no looking back for me. I was interested in every aspect of the film industry.
I went on to intern at various large production companies around LA. I was reading alot of scripts and writing coverage while simultaniously taking acting classes and writing my own scripts. I would shoot short films with friends and started to build up a network in Los Angeles. Eventually I was in SAG/AFTRA and was auditioning for various shows and films and working throughout the US and Canada.
I produced and was the screenwriter on my first feature film which was released in 2018 entitled ‘The Broken Ones’. I then went on to open my production company Twisted Valley Films with my then producing partner and director Elyse Russell. We were developing projects and podcasts while working towards being the next female led production company when COVID hit and the world shut down. In that time my producing partner stepped away from the film industry while I continued. I was living between Toronto and LA and started to produce more branded digital content, smaller production shoots.
Eventually I started to notice a gap in the social media space with a lack of high quality content for these emerging brands and a lack of understanding on how to grow their online presence without getting taken advantage of by larger digital agencies. We began to social manage brands from jewelry, beauty, wellness, hospitality and create organic partnerships while also creating content.
Twisted Valley Film’s has now pivoted into a company that spans from production, social media, content creation, growth and partnerships. We work with photographers and various professionals to help bring brands social media to life with digital campaign shoots and social media management. Every client is different with their goals so we try to help bring an organic, hands on approach.
We continuing to work in the narrative space with two films in development at the moment.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Production always has it’s challenges and I would say it is never a smooth road. Literally we named our company Twisted Valley Films because we feel that there will be twisted and turns along the way to completing a project. It’s never smooth and it’s not a straight line.
However, it is almost always worth it in the end! Struggles could be anything from talent backing out from a shoot last minute, rain on your shoot day, a client not being happy with the direction we are taking creatively, there are many things that could happen. I always say that nothing really shocks me anymore. The goal is to look at every struggle as a new challenge, or take a walk around the block! Our goal is to tell the story in the best way possible.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I constantly say that I wear multiple hats. Which I think is true for most artists and creatives.
I’m most proud of completing my first feature film and releasing that into the world in 2018. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but I learned so much from that experience.
I’m not really sure what I’m known for. I would say I’m more public facing about my career as an actor however that truly comes in waves, as does the work.
I would like to be more known for my work in production and what we are doing with Twisted Valley Films. I’m always interested in pushing the narrative towards the female lens and telling marginilized stories. I would say this is how most of our clients identify and the basis of our scripts.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m a film nerd. Through and through so I watch alot of films and television. I love bio-pics and memoir’s. I’m facinated by other peoples stories and how they get from point A to point B and all the pitfalls in between. I’m very interested in people. Variety and The Hollywood Reporter do rountables and interviews now which I love and watch often. Vanity Fair also has Little Gold Men and Still Watching which are great podcasts. I also love Sam Jones “Off Camera”, I’m not sure if he is still doing it but those interviews are so good.
However, what makes me do my best in life at work would be Google drives. I live in my Google!
