Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelley Liederbach
Hi Kelley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My home décor journey began – in an official sense – when I made the figurative leap from safety in the form of leaving my shared living arrangement with friends. I always enjoyed decorating and materializing my interests and style, but I never considered that it could be a real artistic pursuit until I had a blank canvas to fill, and it was in many ways serendipitous that moving gave me that. The stressful process of furniture-splitting and divvying revealed what little I truly owned, and while at first this made me panic, I eventually came to see the opportunity in it all: a fresh start!
Starting fresh came with its own set of problems, but it helped that my boyfriend likewise contributed little in the way of furniture. Luckily, he supported the prospect of it being my domain to fill our new home. So, we signed a lease, and I got to work! I sold everything I could and started scouring hundreds of pages of furniture websites for unique pieces, putting the proceeds from my old stuff toward items that matched the vision I had for our new space.
I was so excited with how everything came together that I thought it would be fun to create an account on Instagram for others to share in the process with me. From following interesting home designers to creating content about my new acquisitions and pinning inspiration pics to my home mood boards, I tried to curate an online presence that was both characteristic of me and relatable to others. At some point my account started getting real traction in terms of followers and brand interest. It was a gradual development but to this day the excitement and gratitude I feel when people join in my journey is unexplainable.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think a natural obstacle to anyone looking to expand their home expression is space. Don’t get me wrong, our first apartment was small and beautiful, with plenty of room to be creative and imaginative. At some point, though, it became a repetitive process of decorating and redecorating the same room, and with our golden retriever puppy quickly growing I felt that we needed a new setting that could accommodate different living. Space is also somewhat of a unique demand for a home decor influencer, as more room allows me to add dimensions to what I feature – e.g. office, bath, kitchen, etc.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
@KelleyLiederbachHome is essentially my vision of what “home” is and the process of how it comes to be. I feature pieces, products, and collaborate with brands that embody my interests and style. A significant portion of my room inspirations involve arranging in unique ways or incorporating new Facebook Marketplace finds – my guilty pleasure/hidden secret – into a given space. I started this journey simply wanting to share my personal home-building with people so they could participate in, and hopefully be inspired by, rooms coming to life. This is really the core of what I do, and I try to maintain an authentic lived-in feel in my content that reflects DIY values. After all, what good is it being inspired to try new styles, pieces, and products if you can’t do it yourself? I think that aspect is what I take pride in most; the content I create is congenial and I can honestly say that I stand by it because I live by it.
What’s next?
Seeing as though I have only recently moved, my focus now is to make the absolute most of our new space – which I am extremely excited about. In addition to the plans and arrangements I have for my existing products, I am in the process of expanding my purview into kitchen and bath. I am in love with our kitchen and will be creating some great content soon showcasing fun and unique brands that bring my ideas for the space to life. Stay tuned!
