Rising Stars: Meet Yayoi Daimon of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yayoi Daimon

Hi Yayoi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a singer-songwriter from Japan, focusing on R&B, dancehall, and afrobeats.

I support GIRLS POWER and often sing empowering anthems for women.

In May of this year, I moved to LA to begin my serious activities in the United States.

Since childhood, I have been learning piano, dance, and singing. During my school years, I was active as a hip-hop dancer in my hometown of Osaka.

In 2010, I made my major debut in Japan as part of the dance vocal girl group “rhythmic.” Two years later, I transitioned to a solo career.

As a solo artist, I have garnered 15 million views on my music videos on YouTube. I have released singles, EPs, and albums, evolving into my current style.

You might find it surprising, but my hometown of Osaka has a deep-rooted culture of reggae music and dancehall, which is reflected in my music today.

Currently, I am also producing young up-and-coming artists and engaging in various activities.

Right now, I am working hard on my album.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Sure! Here’s your text translated into English:

My journey in music has not been an easy one.

Before my debut in 2010, I went through over 100 auditions and it took a long time to release my first song.

After transitioning to a solo career, I wrote and released many songs before I finally reached a million streams on my first hit.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I left my label and became independent.

Having relied on my label for support until then, I faced challenges in building a network and organizing releases, focusing on aspects of music creation beyond just performing.

In 2018, after seeing Beyoncé’s show at Coachella, I dreamed of moving to America. Since then, I worked on obtaining a visa alongside my music activities.

Finally, in May of this year, after five years, I was able to secure my artist visa and move to LA.

My new challenges have just begun.

I look forward to sharing my future activities with you.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Japanese singer-songwriter, primarily focusing on R&B, dancehall, and afrobeats.

My representative works include “NO BRA!”, “M.O.B”, “Top Gyal”, and “GAL IS MIND.” My latest release is “Jamaica,” featuring a guest “KOONTA” appearance by a reggae singer from Korea.

As a true challenger, I moved to LA in my thirties to continue pursuing my dreams. What I take pride in about myself is that I never give up on challenges.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
The moments that make me the happiest are when many fans tell me that my songs have uplifted them. I also love seeing the audience enjoying my live performances right in front of me.

Additionally, watching the artists and students I’ve produced succeed brings me great joy.
