Today we’d like to introduce you to Aidan Flores
Hi Aidan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I first got into sewing around late 2015 or early 2016, when I began altering and tailoring my own jeans. Back then, I was a bigger guy and could never find jeans that fit the way I wanted, so I decided to make my own. Over time, I expanded into reselling vintage clothing and sneakers, which eventually led to the creation of Handmade Rust.
It all started in my mom’s garage with nothing more than a home sewing machine and a pile of thrifted garments and scraps I had collected over the years. I found a lot of inspiration in designers who had already explored similar styles, but I wanted to add my own twist and make it unique. That’s when I began crafting one-of-one pieces from whatever I had lying around.
I’ve always paid close attention to detail, treating each garment as a canvas—an art piece. No matter how bold or wild the colors, graphics, or textures seemed, they always came together perfectly. From there, I started experimenting with new patterns and silhouettes, which is how I developed the style you see in my work today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
More like the High Five Highway in the DFW… Far from smooth ride tho.. especially when you come from the state of Texas and all of these things i’m doing are a foreign language out there.. Would say the main struggle would be the accessibility of resources.. you have to continue moving and researching to find places to help you bring a vision to life.. was hard finding people to help at the production level when your qty isn’t as high as a big name brand…
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the owner/designer of Handmade Rust.. I specialize in mens garments but I like to thing all of my clothes is Unisex and can fit any walk of life… Im known for my denim and 1of1 garments.. im most proud to have built such a strong community and brand.. the amount of love and support that my Souljas give and show is crazy.. I never would have thought this many people would love the clothes I design.. I would say my work ethic sets me apart… i’m a one man army… everything you see behind Handmade Rust.. I do it by myself.. A-Z…
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Family…. The road of an entrepreneur is not a easy one.. and most times not understood.. but what I find the most happiness in is when I can put everything aside and just chill with my fam.. Family brings me true happiness.
