Meet Rikki Hixx of West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rikki Hixx

Rikki, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Started doin hair 19 years ago after being unhoused, since then through the journey I’ve cut hair for the Air Force’s that helped me to tighten my fades and pride in ownership that brought me to understand the value of teaching others. I’ve grown by working independently and opening my private studio hair parlor 66 on Sunset Boulevard Route 66! Throughout the journey I found my greatest value is building relationships not just clientele.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the first struggle I encountered was moving from Chicago to Vegas. It took a few months for my hair license to be able to transfer. I panicked and realized I could work at the Air Force base and do hair because they’re licensed in any state. I became a barber for the AirForce discovering repetition technique’s with endless variety of people getting 10k hrs of experience real quick!
Moving to Los Angeles from Vegas I failed to transfer my license and got caught by state board two times $3000 in fines. Signed up like a student took the whole exam again, including practical and past amazingly.
Leaving the hair salon that encourage me to move to LA to start my own private studio parlor 66 struggle to believe in myself, but it’s been a great journey and best decision of my life!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Specialize in my shear work I do a lot of scissor cuts and love to do a lot of variety of different scissor techniques, including texturizing and razor work, etc.
With the immense fading background after working for the Air Force for a few years, I do a lot of cuts where hybrid the fade into an awesome scissor textured styled look.
Specialize in men’s grooming, style coaching, helping clients achieve the look they’ve always wanted it.
Classic modern has always been my vibe and style.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The thing I love the most about LA it’s got a lot of flavor, so many different styles and types of people with unique looks and influences that make it easy to be inspired if you’re creative.

On the flip side, there’s so much traffic!
