Hi Young , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a young age, I was captivated by the art of creation, which led me to pursue a design-focused path through art school and various interior design firms. During my time in interior design, I found inspiration and gained invaluable insights into construction, sparking a desire to merge my design expertise with hands-on building skills. This newfound passion led me to transition into contracting, and in 2019, I founded NLA. At NLA, I expertly blend my deep design background with construction knowledge, working on both residential and commercial projects. I am deeply passionate about my work and providing my clients with their vision, and I look forward to continuing to elevate NLA and its projects in the years to come.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely. There are always ups and downs in any business, and for me, starting my business just before COVID-19 presented the most challenging hurdle to overcome. I had invested every ounce of my resources, income and energy into NLA. The economic uncertainty and widespread disruption meant that securing contracts was incredibly difficult, and I faced significant delays in obtaining necessary materials due to global supply chain issues. Also, my father had passed away right before starting NLA as well so dealing with his loss on top of starting my own company made things very challenging to overcome mentally and emotionally. Despite these hurdles, I remained driven by the belief that my dedication and resilience would ultimately pave the way for success in an otherwise turbulent time.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was the transition from living in Seoul, South Korea to Los Angeles. It was a major moment in my life that shaped who I am today and started my new life in America. I’ll always remember the feeling of walking up the ramp at LAX to then be greeted by our friends who had already immigrated to LA prior. While it was one of the fondest memories it was also one of the most challenging as well. From learning English as my second language, making new friends and getting accustomed to American culture, it definitely was a big adjustment to get used to.
