Daily Inspiration: Meet Olachi Agba

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olachi Agba

Hi Olachi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
How I Started:
As a Nigerian-American, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to travel back and forth between the U.S. and Nigeria since I was a baby, thanks to my mother. I am deeply rooted in my culture in Nigeria, and we go back yearly. My attachment to Nigerian cuisine grew each time I returned to the States, where traditional meals were hard to come by unless cooked by family members. This yearning for authentic dishes sparked my appreciation for the flavors of home. Over the years, I learned how to cook a few of my favorite dishes when I craved them, but it just isn’t the same as back home. Because of this, I always counted down the days until the next summer or December trip back to Nigeria to get a taste of my favorite dishes.
Thankfully, there are a few local Nigerian restaurants and chefs in Los Angeles where we can get a taste of home, but I noticed that not everyone knows about them, or they lack the strong social media presence often used to grow businesses in today’s world. This challenge becomes even more apparent when people visit from abroad or move into the city—it can be difficult to find good African Diaspora restaurants or caterers. While cuisines like Italian, Mediterranean, or American food are well-represented when traveling, finding food of the African Diaspora is often more difficult and less accessible. That’s when I realized that not only is there a gap in restaurant visibility, but there’s also no dedicated review page for African Diaspora cuisine.
Being a worldwide traveler, I’ve experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to find African Diaspora cuisine when compared to other global cuisines. This gap in accessibility inspired me to create Chop Hub—a platform where people can discover, celebrate, and connect with the rich culinary traditions of the African Diaspora. Whether it’s finding a new restaurant or supporting chefs who bring these flavors to life, Chop Hub exists to build a stronger community around this vital and often overlooked cuisine. Chop Hub is more than a review page—it’s a platform dedicated to promoting and elevating the cuisine of the African Diaspora. We connect travelers and food lovers with the best restaurants, chefs, and creators while helping businesses grow their visibility and community.

How I Got to Where I Am Today:
Though I’m just at the beginning of this journey, I’m immensely grateful for the progress made in such a short time. In just under two months, I’ve had the privilege of meeting incredible people and participating in exciting events. Through interviews, I’ve heard amazing stories and learned invaluable lessons from the people I’ve met. Honestly, I’d say the way I got to where I am now is by the grace of God. I never expected 2024 to bring the launch of Chop Hub, but one day, the idea came to me, and I felt a clear calling from God to pursue it. With faith guiding me, I’m committed to seeing this vision through.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has been quite smooth, and I attribute this largely to the grace of God and my commitment to seizing opportunities as they arise. I believe that opportunities are already set for us; it’s up to us to do the work and step into them. If I had to identify a struggle, it would be overcoming my own procrastination, particularly with editing and posting content. However, Chop Hub has been instrumental in helping me address this challenge. I’ve come to realize that consistency is key, and working on Chop Hub has reinforced this important lesson.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear many hats in my life, but they all center around my passion for connection and service. On social media, I’m known for my content creation, with a focus on travel—something that has been dear to me for as long as I can remember. Traveling has always been a favorite activity I shared with my mother, and over time, I started sharing my experiences online, and I hope it can turn into a way to inspire others.

In addition to my online presence, I’ve always had a passion for event planning and coordination. Whether it’s organizing small gatherings to connect people with a shared love for creation or my new work in planning for my friend’s recording studio to create networking events for the music industry, I enjoy using my talents to bring people together. It has allowed me to engage with creative communities uniquely, and I find fulfillment in facilitating connections and fostering growth within these networks.

On a different note, I’m also a nursing student and pre-med, with aspirations to continue my education in medical school after finishing my BSN. I’m particularly proud of my perseverance and determination throughout nursing school—it hasn’t been easy, but I’m committed to this path because I want to make a difference in people’s lives. One way I’ve already been able to do this is through a yearly medical mission we host in Nigeria, named after my grandmother, Florence Agba Foundation. My family and I travel to our village to assist people with diabetes and other health conditions, which has been incredibly fulfilling. The medical field runs in my family, and it’s something I’m deeply passionate about continuing.

What sets me apart is my ability to balance these different aspects of my life—travel, content creation, event planning, and my medical journey—while staying rooted in my purpose. I’m most proud of my perseverance and my dedication to uplifting others, whether it’s through healthcare, media, or community-building.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When it comes to networking, I believe the most important thing is to always be your authentic self. Be confident in what you believe because there are others out there who feel the same. Share what you’re working on, because you never know who might align with your vision or how your work might resonate with someone else.

Along with that confidence, it’s important not to hesitate or feel intimidated by others who might be in a similar space. Enter every conversation and interaction with the mindset of collaboration, because we are all better together. Approach every connection with sincerity and a genuine openness to learn, and over time, these relationships can grow into something truly meaningful.
