Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Salazar
Hi Paul, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started in real estate right after college in 2006, teaming up with my mom in Rancho Cucamonga. We called ourselves Team Salazar at Century 21. Those were some tough years, especially with the market in recession. We had to navigate foreclosures and short sales for about three years, and that was a real crash course in the business.
In 2009, while I was dating someone in Brentwood, my mom encouraged me to take a big leap and move to Los Angeles to chase my dream of working in high-end real estate. It was a huge step—moving to LA felt like jumping into the deep end. I didn’t know anyone there, and I had no idea how the luxury market worked. But I knew I had to get my foot in the door, so I started applying for assistant positions. After doing some research, I quickly realized that Hilton & Hyland was the place to be if I wanted to work in luxury real estate. I sent out an email blast to about 15,000 agents, hoping to catch someone’s attention. Luckily, Chad Rogers reached out, and I ended up working with him for the next 10 years. That experience was invaluable—it really shaped my understanding of the LA market and taught me the nuances of dealing with high-end clients.
By 2019, I felt it was time to venture out on my own, but it wasn’t an easy decision. To help me navigate that transition, I hired a business coach, Mary Jett from Tom Ferry, who had coached top agents like Gary Gold who sold the Playboy Mansion. Just two months into working with Mary, I found the confidence to leave Chad and start my own venture. A few months later, I hired my first assistant, and that’s when things really started to take off. My business grew rapidly from there, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Looking back, I’m grateful for the risks I took and the support I had along the way. Each step taught me something new, and it’s all played a part in getting me to where I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never a smooth road in business, and my journey has had its fair share of bumps. One of the hardest transitions for me was moving from selling $200,000 homes in Rancho Cucamonga to suddenly handling $20 million estates in Los Angeles with Chad Rogers. That leap in market was a steep learning curve, to say the least. I remember feeling completely out of my element at first—there’s a huge difference between the two markets, not just in price points, but in client expectations, negotiation tactics, and even the way you present a property. It was a trial by fire, but it taught me so much about resilience and adaptability.
Then, when I decided to leave Chad and strike out on my own, I was hit with a whole new set of challenges. Building up the confidence to be independent and create my own brand was tough. It wasn’t just about believing in myself but also about convincing others that I could deliver the same level of service on my own. I had to prove that I could stand on my own two feet in a very competitive market.
And even now, it’s not all smooth sailing. The market is slow, and closing deals has become more challenging. People often see the successes—the big sales, the luxury listings—but they don’t see the daily grind, the deals that fall through, or the constant hustle it takes to stay at the top. The journey is filled with highs and lows, but it’s those tough moments that really shape you and make the successes that much sweeter.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is built around a few key pillars, all aimed at generating leads and building lasting relationships. One of my main focuses is on expired and canceled listings—I put a lot of effort into those, along with geographic farming. I spend about 5-7 hours a week door-knocking, which allows me to connect directly with potential clients. There’s something powerful about that face-to-face interaction that you just can’t get any other way. I also work closely with developers, especially on the Westside, to identify prime development opportunities.
One thing that really sets my brand apart is my strong social media presence. I love being creative, and I channel that into producing videos that educate buyers, sellers, and even other agents. I’ve been really consistent with my content, and it’s paid off—not just in helping me stand out, but in earning positive feedback from the agent community as well.
I’m especially proud of the high-quality cinematic lifestyle videos we create for our listings. These videos, along with the events we throw to showcase properties, really highlight what we’re about. Our approach is very relationship-based, and we make it a priority to create new connections every day. We have an intense prospecting schedule that keeps us focused on that goal.
At the end of the day, what I really want people to know is that my team and I are dedicated to delivering exceptional service. We’re all about building relationships and leveraging creative marketing strategies to achieve outstanding results for our clients. It’s about more than just closing deals—it’s about creating something lasting and meaningful in the process.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that might surprise people is that, despite being in a very public-facing role and staying active in the real estate world, I’m actually quite shy and more of an introvert at heart. I’m comfortable putting myself out there for my work, but deep down, I really value my quiet time and introspection. I’m also deeply into plant medicine and personal growth, which have been big influences in shaping who I am today. These practices have helped me grow not just as a professional but also on a personal level, giving me a stronger sense of balance and purpose.
Even though I’ve been in the real estate industry for 18 years, I’ve only been running my own business since 2019. Those years have been full of evolution and growth, both personally and professionally. It’s been a journey of continuously pushing myself to step out of my comfort zone, and I think that’s been key to my success.
