Meet Bridget Dickey of BRIDGET DICKEY FABRICS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Dickey

Hi Bridget , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was always drawn to fabric and some of my first memories as a kid are playing dress up at a place called Lets Dress Up where you could go in and choose an outfit, get your hair and makeup done and do a photoshoot on an elaborate set. I attended a birthday party there and it changed my life. I was obsessed with this place and remember just gravitating towards the more elaborate wardrobe there, heavily beaded wedding dresses, fur coats, sequin costumes etc. I remember just touching every garment I could because I was in awe of everything. I didn’t have access to a sewing machine growing up so I started hand sewing when I was in middle school, thrifting clothing and just taking them apart and sewing them back together or embellishing them. I loved creating new pieces off of items I already had and making them my own.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely has not been a smooth road but I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and I wouldn’t be where I am today without all the bumps, twists and turns along the way. I LOVE my customers and the fact that I can help them find what they need for their projects is an amazing feeling. It never gets old seeing fabric turned into something totally new, different and special. Really grateful to be able to turn my love of textiles, fashion and costuming into something that is helping to solve a problem while also giving back to the community. Every purchase supports survivors of Domestic Violence in Los Angeles, CA.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Supporting other artists, designers, creatives and makers is super important to me so I decided to relaunch my textile business in 2023. BRIDGET DICKEY FABRICS, focuses on Costume, Fashion & Home Decor Fabrics while promoting sustainability and a more circular lifestyle for ALL textiles. I sell remnants, overstock, deadstock, vintage and one-of-one designer fabric. And I also offer sourcing services to clients and custom fabric printing. As a domestic violence survivor myself I wanted to continue supporting the Los Angeles community so every purchase supports other survivors as well. I donate quarterly to a few non for profits that directly provide resources to those in need.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is with my grandma Trudie. She was an icon. I loved going to visit her in Florida as a kid and going through all of her vintage clothing, accessories and footwear. My twin sister and I would spend hours just looking through everything. We would put outfits together and do a performance with full glam on. Before she was married she was a model and singer in Chicago. She loved musicals and cinema so we would spend hours watching old movies. She was one of my largest influences as a designer and creative. She had amazing taste and was always was dressed to the 9’s. Really miss her. RIP Trudie
