Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Hayn
Tim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Santa Monica, and I started learning music when I was ten through the Santa Monica school system. I was in band, orchestra, choir, and jazz band. I couldn’t get enough. As an adult, I’ve been in several bands and musical projects, but my first big break was joining a Russian Surf Rock band called The Red Elvises. For four and a half years, I toured with them all over The US, Canada, and Thailand playing close to a thousand shows. The pandemic in 2020 ended my time with them as I shifted my focus and attention to my own projects. I’ve been writing, recording, and producing songs for years while playing shows and building a local following on The Westside. Lately, I’ve been throwing rooftop concerts at my apartment in Venice while also recording several different projects. I’m currently working on my third album, as well as an acoustic album and a live album. Music is my life, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has never been smooth, but it sure has been fun and rewarding! I used to work in the restaurant industry balancing work and music. Going on tour full time with The Red Elvises was a big break for me, but it was still challenging. It’s a unique lifestyle on the road, and it’s not for everyone. I adapted and took to it quite nicely, but there are still the ups and downs. For instance, can you imagine having the flu and still going on stage and giving it your all? The show must go on! Then, as I was very comfortable with my touring lifestyle, the Covid Pandemic hit and ended it all. The pandemic was extra difficult, because not only was I out of work, but I also couldn’t do the one thing that makes me happiest – perform live. I started a few different live projects during that time, and when the pandemic finally ended, it was awesome to get back out there and perform again. For me, struggles and challenges are always a part of the journey, and I welcome them. Each challenge provides an opportunity to learn, grow, and improve moving forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I lead multiple bands that perform around LA and Orange County. Cover bands tend to make more money and pay the bills to support my original music, so that’s my current focus. I front “Left On Rad” which does high energy rock n roll covers of all your favorite songs. I also work with other artists on their projects whether it’s producing or recording, and sometimes even teaching. What sets me apart from others is also what I’m most proud of – my musical versatility. I play a lot of instruments. I mainly sing and play guitar, but I also play trumpet, piano, bass, and drums. I write, record, and produce music in a multitude of genres. I’m a master of harmony. One of my favorite things to do is build vocal harmonies. I have a pretty big vocal range, so it’s a lot of fun for me singing all the parts. I come alive in the recording studio and on stage. My favorite project is my original music that I write and record. I’ve released a couple albums, a couple EPs and several singles under “Tim Hayn”.
What matters most to you?
It is my duty to be a beacon of hope and light in a world of darkness. I care most about spreading love and positivity and inspiring and uplifting others to follow their passions and dreams. I do this because life is hard on everyone, and being of service to others helps smooth the ride.
