Meet Felix Brian Portillo of Fresh Kutz Barbershop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felix Brian Portillo.

Felix Brian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started cutting hair in high school. I became really good at it so I started working in a barbershop as soon as I graduated. Shortly after I went to barber school to make a career out of it. When I turned 20 I started fresh Kutz. People would say I wouldn’t make it because I was young. Or I did not know what k was doing. I never lost hope and faith and stayed focused on the prize. I always wanted to make a difference where I grew up so I used the barbershop as my tool to help kids learn a skill. And teach kids that dreams come true. I sponsored a nonprofit to paint a mural of kids with Careers. The cool thing is that kids drew it. The mural is located in our North Hollywood location. It’s named Dream. It’s been 9 years already and fresh Katz has became well known in the community. Fresh Katz now has a focus. To grow and help the community grow so everyone can be successful.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s never a smooth ride. Or else everyone would do it. Business is a challenge, but I love it. Some of my struggles was because of my age. People would not take me seriously. Now I have earned my tittle and rsspect.9 years in the game

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fresh Katz Barbershop story. Tell us more about the business.
We cut men’s hair. Modern and classic hair styles. From babies to seniors. We can give you a fresh smooth cut, or a nice hot towel shave. I’m proud that we have great customer service, we make our clients feel at home. What sets us apart is the fact that we support our youth in our communities help them empower themselves.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan on franchising the business.
