Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Dormitzer

Hi Justin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My artistic career started when I was in 4th grade. I saw that my parents had a copy of Photoshop Elements on the desktop computer and started playing around with photo collages. Throughout high school I developed my wider artistic skills such as painting, sculpture, photography, and also discovered After Effects. I kept pursuing animation and motion graphics at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering in the Integrated Digital Media Program, and just completed my masters degree in Computer Arts at the School of Visual Arts with a focus on motion graphics and experimental art. Currently I am a freelance designer and animator working on various commercial and personal projects.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have always known what I have wanted to do- but that does not mean that there haven’t been both personal and external obstacles. The 2020 pandemic was very difficult to graduate into but I have always been a very positive person and tend to see the bright side of situations even when I encounter barriers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Motion Graphics artist and designer. My approach to art and design is to combine my technical expertise with a vivid imagination, resulting in pieces that are both visually striking and sensorily immersive. I use both generative techniques in TouchDesigner as well as 2D and 3D animation created primarily in After Effects and Cinema 4D. I also enjoy creating interactive installations. Throughout all my work I tend to use a saturated palette and textured elements.

What were you like growing up?
As a child I was always interested in the arts. I used to love making origami and building lego sets. I have always had a rather even temperament and a very vivid imagination. I also loved playing sports and spending time in nature with my family.
