Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynx Yiran Wang.
Hi Lynx Yiran, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m an artist and filmmaker graduated from the Architecture Department of the University of Melbourne and studied in the Character Animation Department at California Institute of the Arts, honored with the Lillian Disney Scholarship. In 2018, I had the opportunity to participate in an exchange program at UCLA.
Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to receive numerous international awards and recognitions for my work. Notably, I was awarded the iJungle International Illustration Competition 2020 New Talent Award and the Dalian Cultural and Museum Journey Culture and Museum Enthusiast Awards. In 2023, I was delighted to have my work featured in the “Through Time and Space” exhibition organized by the Museum of Chinese Australian History, with support from the Australian Embassy in Beijing and RMIT University.
My film “Letter from Fukushima,” has been showcased and awarded at various film festivals and exhibitions worldwide. Including Dalian Urban Public Art Biennale, the World Health Organization (WHO) “Health for All Film” Festival, and the Yale College Film Festival.
During my time at the University of Melbourne, I was honored to receive first prize in the Visual Unit of the Melbourne Annual Poetry Anthology “Above Water” submission event. Additionally, I had the pleasure of designing the cover and posters for the 2018 collection. Furthermore, my architectural design work was showcased on the cover and within the textbook “Visualizing Environment”.
My work has been featured in multiple Art Exhibitions, including the CalArts 50th Anniversary Celebration Happenings Project, CalArts Open Show 2019, CalArts Expo 2019, CalArts Expo 2020, CalArts Gallery Night, and CalArts International Week Art Exhibition.
I have had the opportunity to present and give lectures at various public educational and artistic events, with the aim of promoting knowledge and creativity. Some notable events include the Zhihu Live talk, Art Media Lab open class, 20212 Tactileye x Goethe-Institut Beijing “Tactile Riddles” accessibility workshop, 2023 the Wuzhen Langyuan Art x Solaris Art “Beyond The Dome · Wuzhen Again” Residency Program, and the 2021 “Picture Book @ Dalian” event organized by the Dalian Women’s Federation and Dalian Mass Organizations Service Center in conjunction with China Reading Ltd.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing in the world is perfect, As Nietzsche says “‘Knowledge would have little allure if we did not have to overcome so much shame on the way to acquiring it.'”.
Obstacles are what make every success sweeter, echoing the sentiment expressed in the song, ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.'”
There were many dark moments and challenges in the past, One struggles was social media anxiety. I have been very bitter about why there haven’t been enough audiences I expected viewing or following. But now I sees that very childish and boring. Becasue those apps are intetionally designed to make people worry and depressed,so they make you to buy their advertising. Just evil. Why care about something or someone that doen’t care about you?
It’s very important to talk to many friends, and do enough reading and gain deeper and broader understanding of knowledge to stand on a higher scope level.
As a friend of mine said, it’s about letting the right people, and platform see it, and values your work. It’s a right path to success.
As long as I’m satisfied with my work, it makes me happy. Creating art is a dialoge with nature, universe, and gods of inspiration.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialized in Animated film production, illustration, and urban sketching. And I’m known for watercolor style animation and vivid urbansketchings that capture the ambiances of exciting events and places.
I guess what sets me apart, is my experience in multiple educational background. I’ve majored in both Architecture and Animation, which offers me multiple perspectives in storytelling.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Collaboration:
Feel free to contact me via DM & emails~ I’m always looking for exciting collaborations.
I’m planning to make a short film this year critical about AI. It’s really makes me sad how they undermine the creative industry by stealing the creations of others. Looking for people that could give some feedback on the script. And looking for collaborators, including storyboarding, character designer, post-editing and composer. If you are also interested in the topic, don’t hesitated to contact me!
Supports:
I deeply appreciate any form of support that comes my way. Kind words, recommendations, opportunities, and financial support all mean a lot to me. It warms my heart when people offer their support in any way possible.
