Check Out Huili Jin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Huili Jin

Hi Huili, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From women’s perspective, I aim to utilize women’s garments to enhance the life quality for women. My primary objective is create emotional connections between women and garments, thus preserving the value of garments and reducing associated waste.
My works focus on the sustainability and functionality nature of fashion. In my favourite project, Escape, I created a swift switch between on and off-work status through quick changes of clothes so as to help the wearer quickly get rest. Throughout my project development, my goal is not only to help the wearer in real-life situations but also to follow the sustainable concept.
I worked as a fashion designer, mainly responsible for the embroidery work in the ready-to-wear project. During this experience, I have learned about how the garment high-quality, technique, and details contribute to the prospect of extending the lifespan of garment.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This is not a simple path because it is a less developed field, and this choice also involves interdisciplinary and multi-field collaborative research. Therefore, it means I will face more unknowns and learn many new things. Unlike traditional fashion design and production, this combines knowledge from different fields, making garment more purposeful and meaningful.
In my previous project, I integrated knowledge from psychology and psychological healing. I started from scratch, learning and reading extensively, consulting with numerous experts in the field, and asking questions. This process was both interesting and challenging.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My works mainly focus on the sustainability and functionality nature of fashion. For example, in my favourite project, Escape, I created a swift switch between on and off-work status through quick changes of clothes so as to help the wearer quickly get rest. In the meantime, I practiced zero-waste tailoring to achieve “single piece in two-way dressing,” embodying the sustainable fashion concept from every detail of the cloth.
Throughout my project development, my goal is not only to bring practical help to females but also to follow the zero-waste design technologies based on the sustainable design concept.
In my project, Hug Me. I borrowed the principle of the Squeeze Machine, taking human body movement as the source of cloth structure. Upon being pressed by the cloth, the wearer is expected to secrete dopamine, elevating joyfulness and comfortableness. Meanwhile, I used the silhouette and created a visual illusion of being embraced.

What’s next?
I aim to design for females after thorough and sufficient study from an intimate perception of their needs, specifically tailoring to their life, characteristics, and identities. I hope to participate in design projects as an independent fashion designer, applying practicability concepts featuring women.
With a multidisciplinary background, I aspire to integrate fashion into women’s daily routines, genuinely helping the female community both functionally and emotionally. Improving women’s living quality is my persistent goal.
