Life & Work with Prince Joshua

Today we’d like to introduce you to Prince Joshua.

Prince Joshua

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up, I had a very religious and conservative upbringing. Being very sheltered and being born in a small town, I never even considered the thought that I was gay. During my junior year of high school, I came out to my parents, with my sister Rose coming out as gay (and later as trans). We had a lot of long discussions with our parents on what our identity and sexuality meant to us. It took lots of patience and love to come to the level of support that our family has for one another. I think the experience really shaped who I am today, carrying a lot of values from my upbringing but without the need for religion, just love. Although I came out in high school, I tended to cling to the preppy stereotype and was always nervous to cause too much attention to the fact that I was gay. When I moved out of my parent’s house and to Arizona, I felt so free. I was 18 and had just got my first big tattoo, as I secretly got the infamous crown tattoo on my right cheek when I was 17; I pierced my septum and began a new journey. I really came into my own by being surrounded by students who had just as much passion for their brands as I did. I really learned how to market myself and thus began styling everything I wore with my black and gold, medieval meets streetwear influences. I played with makeup, began creating harnesses, and found a confidence in myself that made me not care what anyone thought of me. From crop tops to black mesh, leather to lace, and gold or iced-out jewelry, I was always one of the most extra people when walking into class, at a family reunion, and, of course, on my Instagram. That’s when I came up with my mantra, “Royalty is the mindset you wear,” because just like our style, the mindset we choose to wear is how people will perceive us. Being unapologetically myself was the best decision I made to help me chase my dreams. I am in love with fantasy, obviously, and I love being able to use fashion to take me to a new fantasy or moment. Styling outfits with different locations, sets, and edits can take people to another realm; it’s my favorite form of storytelling. Even seeing a collection go down a runway, it tells you a story of that person, their aesthetic, and presence. It’s also an expression of how you feel, what you think, or what you stand for. No matter who you are, you choose fashion to represent you every day. That’s why I like to make every day my runway. I went to study fashion marketing in Arizona when I turned 18, and it helped me evolve so much. During my time studying fashion, I used the tools and techniques I learned from marketing classes to optimize my social media. I began posting frequently, styling myself, posing in different ways, and showing my different talents, from dancing to hula hooping, and people started to eat it up. I continued to build from the username I had chosen @ThePrinceJoshua, and wear crowns and gold, and started getting recognized as my handle. I then began working with different underwear brands and rave brands, and I hope to one day work with a big-name clothing brand. I received my BA in fashion marketing while living in Arizona and was also welcomed with open arms into the LGBTQIA+ community with open arms. In Phoenix, I entered the gay scene at 20 as a go-go boy; I instantly wanted to be well-known and part of the community. I love getting to know the different bars in Phoenix and LA and getting to be part of the community no matter where I end up. The moment I danced on my first box, I felt accepted, loved, and excited to be part of our community. I began bartending at two bars, dancing at many of the different bars in Phoenix and Scottsdale, and making my presence known. I’ve now been living in LA for 2 going on 3 years, and it’s been so incredible. It’s so fun to visit Arizona because it feels like being a big fish in a little pond versus in LA, where it feels like I’m a little fish in a big pond. I love how much bigger LA is; I love the different opportunities that are always one connection away here. From being in Trinity the Tuck’s Femboy’s music video to gogo dancing for Trixie Mattel, being a guest at Little Nas X’s birthday party, dancing on stage for the Boulet Brothers Halloween Ball, dancing on stage with Kim Petras, Ava Max, Kesha, Demi Lovato and so many other incredible artists it’s been amazing living here. While performing on stage at so many big events, I had the opportunity to be on OutTV’s all-gay dating show ‘For The Love Of DILFS’ hosted by Stormy Daniels as well as their show ‘Iconic Justice’ hosted by Willam. After adding TV persona to my passions of entertainment, I began featuring in music videos from iconic local artists like Tokeyo and Salina Estitties. After being in Tokeyo’s video for ‘Dick’ and Salina Estitties videos ‘Bootz’ and ‘Papi’ I decided to start writing music of my own. I was then featured on Tokeyo’s song “Coochie” with a verse of my own on his explicit twerk Inducing song. I had so much fun being in the music video, writing and recording my verse, that I had to continue writing. It is with much enthusiasm I have written and directed my own video for ROYAL TEASE ft Big Dream. Going from gogo boy to TV. Personality, and now adding artist to the mix, you can always expect my Royal aesthetic in every detail. I love to combine my passion for dance, fashion, and music and have crafted all of my interests to create ROYAL TEASE. I want to make music for everyone, but I wanted to especially represent the very out and proud gay people like myself who aren’t afraid to unapologetically be and love themselves by doing so. I am also ecstatic to announce I was able to perform ROYAL TEASE with Big Dream at OutLoud music festival for Weho Pride! I performed on Sunday, June 2nd, at the SUMMERTRAMP stage and again that night at the Beaches Pride stage in their extended parking lot. Being able to entertain my community and chase my dreams is the biggest blessing. I am so grateful for the people in my life who support me, tell me I am worthy, and tell me that I can achieve anything I work hard enough for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing comes easy to those that don’t work hard for what they want. With hours of stretching, working out, dance lessons, modeling practice, etc… I have acquired my aesthetic of performing and influencing. With a cheerleading background from high school and a constant love for hip-hop and dancing, I combine the different abilities from toe touches, splits, and kicks into my performances. I have learned that not everything will work out the way you want it to, but being able to adapt and make the most out of every situation is how you keep yourself motivated to continue to chase your dreams.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an entertainer and performer representing the LGBTQIA community through fashion, dance, and music. I am most proud of my recent performance at OutLoud Festivals Weho Pride of my song ROYAL TEASE ft Big Dream. Singing on stage while jumping into the splits, doing toe touches, and twerking, all for the entertainment of my community gives me so much joy. The difference between me and others is that I genuinely LOVE to perform, to dance, to entertain, regardless of how much money I make.

What are your plans for the future?
I have been recording more music and can’t wait to share the new songs, videos, gags, and stunts I have planned!
