Community Highlights: Meet Nikko Reyes of Ready Performance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikko Reyes.

Nikko Reyes

Hi Nikko, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raise in the Philippines, and I moved to California when I was 11yo. I moved to small town in Northern California called Calaveras County. I have 3 siblings, and we are very close. In high school, I was part of track and field, cross country, and the wrestling team. After graduating high school, I attended Columbia College and studied Health and Human performance with a minor in nutrition. I fell in love with health and fitness in high school and started competing in any sports competition or any races I could find. From 5k/10k races, half marathons, triathlons, CrossFit competitions to bodybuilding competitions, I was pretty versatile when it came to training. I wanted to always push myself to do something that I haven’t done or something that could challenge myself in any mental and physical way possible. I trained 3+ years in the Special Forces for the Air Force, but after some time, I realized that was not the life for me. That’s where I started my journey to start helping people with their mental and physical health. I started as a CrossFit coach, and then when I moved to Los Angeles, I became a Barry’s Bootcamp instructor and then started my own Personal Training business.

Aside from fitness training, I am also an actor/fitness model. I recently signed with Stetts Modeling Agency to pursue a career in Acting and modeling here in Los Angeles and in New York City.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Coming from the Philippines, I was such culture shock. Not knowing how to speak English, school was a little more tough than normal. We lived in a small province in the Philippines that wasn’t the best area to live in, but with my parents, who were separated and working aboard, we were able to get by.

Living in a small and somewhat conservative town, I wasn’t able to be myself of who I am and what I am as person. I then moved to Santa Barbara to branch out and see where the future lies, and that’s when I decided to move to Los Angeles after a year to pursue my passion in fitness. But life had a different route for me. I found myself involved with the wrong crowd, working and living the nightlife, not pursuing fitness, and ended up being homeless. While trying to get back on my feet, my mom passed in 2017, and that’s when I took a step back and reclaimed my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.

I am currently training at HVY industry on Beverly Blvd and at home sessions in West Hollywood/Beverly Hills area.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Humility and Gratitude. Coming from a country that has little to offer but a lot to culture, I was able to see life in a different lens. Having little but a lot of love, I am able to appreciate the small and the big things that life has brought to me.
