Today we’d like to introduce you to Pearl Botts.
Hi Pearl, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I lacked a clear vision of my future, as the idea of pursuing an artist’s life seemed inaccessible given my background of being a first-generation Korean American. Embracing a life of practicality felt dull and limiting. The life I get to live now feels extraordinary, presenting an opportunity to not only to use my gifts but also to forge a distinct path where my unique talents can make a meaningful impact. Living in LA has been the perfect background for crafting music, songwriting, delving into transformative conversation, and aiding others—my personal heaven.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an artist presents its fair share of challenges. The ever-present self-inflicted burden of societal expectation to be at a certain place by a certain age as well as financial stability, with income often fluctuating and career paths far from linear. Finding your unique path and dealing with criticism and rejection is part of the course, and finding the balance between artistic integrity and commercial success is a constant juggle. Connecting to the fun and love while radically committing to overcoming obstacles becomes not only part of the journey but the reason for success.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my multifaceted role as a singer, songwriter, recording artist, life coach, podcaster, and content creator. These titles are all under the umbrella of being a person deeply committed to the pursuit of wisdom pervades all my work. I feel like I’m always most proud of the work I have coming which is currently not an exception. My new music and revamped podcast is something I’m very excited about sharing with the world. They’ve both created ample space for me to do the philosophical work of an academic but through a creative work.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The initial experiences of visiting Los Angeles as an adult resonated deeply with me; it felt like stepping into a place where I truly belonged. The energy of the city was viscerally felt. It’s a place that feels familiar yet new at the same time. It allows space for me to embrace the boundless possibilities of self-expression. I even love the traffic! It’s a symbol of the magnetism of living in a city coveted by many and one of the greatest cities on earth. This sense of endless potential and the relentless drive to innovate and create embodies everything I love about life.
I don’t love how community can feel difficult to create and how people feel far away.
