Today we’d like to introduce you to Allyson Gail.

Allyson Gail

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hihi!

My name is Allyson Gail, and I am a LEGO Artist! I love all things LEGO, Music, Muppets, and Puns! I’ve been playing with LEGO ever since I was a kiddo building 3-story condos for Barbie! LEGO was always my go-to toy, but I got super into it around the end of 2019. That’s when I started posting my mocs (my own creations) onto my Instagram: AllysonGailBricks. I also joined a LEGO user group called LUGOLA where I met others who had the same passion for LEGO that I did! From then on, LEGO has been my entire life!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With anything, it takes time, energy, and commitment, and with LEGO, it was no different. I always had LEGO in my life and would always build small, silly things. But once I started getting serious about it, I kept wanting to build bigger and better things. I began replicating builds that I would see online; that’s how I developed my technique. Once I was comfortable making LEGO Spheres and other basic shapes, I was able to build off of those shapes to make the ideas in my head come to life! As an autistic female in the LEGO community, there aren’t a whole lot of us, especially “moc” builders! So, I made it a point to become just that! I hope to inspire everyone to build what they want and express themselves through the brick!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create my art using LEGO bricks! I take a bunch of little pieces of brick and put them together to create sculptures of ideas that pop into my head! I love to play with puns in my work and try to bring humor to every build! I love making LEGO food and building with LEGO Brickseparators! I even keep my food made from LEGO in my actual fridge. It makes for a great display with the lighting and keeps the dog hair out! Living in a tiny home, it’s easy to run out of space to store my sculptures. Once I discovered that the fridge made for a great display, I kept going with it. My actual food, for those who are curious, is in my freezer, doors, pantry, and drawers!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to those who are just starting out would be to build what you love! Don’t build what other people want. Love the way you think and create whatever YOU want!
