Life & Work with Sophia Delucchi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Delucchi.

Sophia Delucchi

Hi Sophia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
How did it start??? “Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk. She says I began to sing long before I could talk” is one of my favorite lyrics from “Thank You for the Music” by ABBA (which I performed in the 4th-grade talent show). That pretty much sums it up! For as long as I can remember, performing was my everything, my greatest joy. I grew up engulfed in the dazzling world of musical theatre: voice lessons, dance classes, piano lessons, summer intensives, school shows, etc. I had the pleasure of performing all over the San Francisco Bay Area. I quickly became addicted to the feeling of being under the lights, escaping to an alternate universe on stage, and telling stories. I studied in both Los Angeles and New York for my BFA in music theatre from AMDA: College of the Performing Arts. One of my favorite opportunities post-graduation was getting to play Sally Brown in the National Tour (Times Square production) of “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Forever carrying a song in my heart, I have more recently embraced my newfound passion for TV and Film. Lights, camera, action…I’m obsessed.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Buckle up!!! The road has been bumpier than I ever could’ve imagined. COVID-19 interrupted my final semester of college, robbing me of my senior showcase (an opportunity for graduating students to perform for prospective representatives, managers, agents, and casting directors) and performing as a lead in the BFA Musical (Erma in “Anything Goes”). I graduated college via a virtual slideshow and observed as the world quite literally shut down and Broadway simply ceased to exist. Omicron was also a bump in the road, as it threatened live performances during the midst of my time on tour with “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” leading to cancellations and complications. Eventually, I tucked my lifelong plans of moving to NYC in my pocket and returned to Hollywood to explore a post-pandemic career in film and TV. During the pandemic, I witnessed the comfort and joy that was curated through entertainment in the media. The escape that a 24-minute sitcom can provide for its audience is a form of magic I long to be a part of. Although sunny Los Angeles didn’t necessarily welcome me with open arms. I was greeted with the SAG and WGA strikes resulting in an industry shutdown. Are you car-sick yet?

I don’t want to sound too negative or like I’m complaining, but it’s actually totally sucked. #rockystart

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Actress. Singer. Dancer. Comedian. Whistler.

Yes, whistler… in 2020, I went viral on TikTok (@sophiadelucchi) for my intense whistling skills. What started as a silly video launched to 3M views and created the competitive hashtags #whistletok #whistleoff. My content has become more lifestyle/comedic based, but the audience still requests whistles. I have utilized this platform and enjoy working with popular brands such as McDonald’s, Avaline, Boundary, Mott&Bow, MeeJee, RMDY, etc.

Most recently, I have had the pleasure of leading quite a few new series!!! There are new streaming services designed for mobile devices. Each series is about an hour or two in length, released as 1–2-minute episodes. The content is uniquely dramatic and romantic, similar to Lifetime movies. You can stream the shows on Mini Shorts, KalosTV, Sereal+, DomiReel, etc. I am most proud of my work as Mable Morris in “Free My Heart,” directed by Olivia Wang, which you can watch on the Mini Shorts app.

I also just wrapped a brilliant short film, “LoverBoy,” directed by Myles Kovalik. We filmed the thriller/noir story at night, running around the pier. It is creepy, delicious, and absolutely bizarre. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.

I’ve been busy and blessed the past few months. I am working so hard and having the time of my life. I am grateful for every single short film, pilot, commercial, audition, and opportunity I have to create art. I am excited for what the future has in store, anyone know of a comedic sitcom that’s casting?

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
THIS is where I’ve won the lottery. I have been beyond blessed with a plethora of support. My family has cheered me on since day one, playing “audience” to my many living room performances. My Mom chauffeured me to every audition, rehearsal, performance, and class growing up. I think we drove back and forth from SF to LA over 5 times during my college audition process. My Dad constantly laughed the loudest in every audience and nurtured my ~exquisite~ taste in film; introducing me to classics like “Austin Powers”, “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure”, and “Coming to America” at an early age. Idols. My brother was so patient and rarely ever complained about the excessive singing that serenaded our childhood, whether he liked it or not.

I’ve now found a wonderful community in Hollywood, where I am grateful to call such dreamers, creatives, and artists my friends and colleagues.

Special thanks:

-to my agent, Carrie Macy at Carrie Macy Talent Agency, for her constant hard work and support.

-to my AMDA college professors who believed in me, nurtured my skills, continue to inspire me, and whose lessons I carry with me always.

-to my super cool boyfriend, who continuously cheers me on and inspires me daily.

-to every single person who has been my “reader” for auditions.

-to literally every human in this industry who has given me a chance to perform and do what I love.
