Today we’d like to introduce you to Xiesiyuan Shu.
Hi Xiesiyuan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a designer proficient not only in physical spaces but also in digital products. During college, I immersed myself in both realms, acquiring a diverse skill set that seamlessly transitions between spatial and digital design. Whether it is, both fields follow a similar trajectory: identifying issues, generating concepts, and refining solutions based on user and client feedback. I pretty much enjoy tackling challenges and exploring new possibilities. In my spare time, I enjoy photography, capturing precious moments and memories from our lives. With a solid seven-year background in design, my passion for the field continues to drive me forward as I expand my expertise in both domains.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Navigating through the journey, I encountered a few hurdles. Initially, my focus leaned towards tangible realms such as space design. However, delving into digital design brought about a significant shift in scale. Where once I conceptualized buildings, parks, and cities, my perspective narrowed to encompass mobile apps, websites, and similar digital constructs.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a creative designer proficient not only in physical spaces but also in digital products. My works focuses primarily on addressing societal issues. During my undergraduate studies, I was taught that ‘design can change the world.’ Therefore, I possess a strong sense of humanitarian concern, aiming to use design to tackle social issues and create more equitable spaces. This commitment fuels both my ongoing learning and my career pursuits. During my free time, I indulge in photography, capturing breathtaking landscapes and memorable moments.
What makes you happy?
The sense of achievement from design, definitely. Design is a realm brimming with creativity and imagination. I love the process of exploring diverse possibilities while also meeting the needs of the public. Yet, I acknowledge that the freedom of design is occasionally constrained by the requirements of clients.
