Life & Work with Justin Burrow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Burrow.

Justin Burrow

Hi Justin, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years in various positions, from front of house at a restaurant to setup and logistics with a high-end events company. Pleasing the guest/client is such a rewarding feeling when you see that smile on their face! I knew that once I had soaked in enough knowledge and experience that I would love to own my own business in this industry. Then came covid… Just like most, my life was turned upside down, and everything came to a halt. This really gave me an opportunity to take a chance and start the planning of what I would when the pandemic was over. This is where “Wandering Spirits Mobile Bar” was born!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The transition has been absolutely amazing. We have grown every day with all the different types of hurdles along the way. I would say that it’s been extremely positive during this whole journey as of now. Of course, there is a transition to believing in yourself and your business during hard times. Long nights and early mornings are definitely one of the harder things, along with missing time with my family takes a toll on you. Overall, it’s been a great, smooth journey so far, and we look forward to more success ahead.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
With our mobile bar, we provide top-rated bar rental & bartending services for Ventura County and Los Angeles. You’ll enjoy professional bartenders who can craft a variety of drinks to suit any taste and a full bar set-up complete with high-quality ingredients, professional-grade equipment, and customized drink menus. Plus, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that we will handle all aspects of beverage service, from setup to cleanup. Whether you’re planning a wedding, corporate event, or private party, we provide an all-in-one solution for your beverage needs so you can relax and enjoy your event.

We are most proud of the incredible support from our community. It’s amazing to see just how many people want to have us be part of their special events. The repeat client business is really the best feeling because you know they see the value in what you provide!

The bar community is HUGE, and there are TONS of great bar services in the area. The thing that really sets us apart is, of course, our 2 vintage horse trailer bars and our ability to offer a FULL turnkey bar service (including the booze) from our California catering license (type 58). This is the perfect way to let us handle everything so you can be 100% be present at your own party or event. Most services that you will find are “dry hire,”…meaning you (the client) will have to shop, house, chill, and provide all the booze the day of. With our turnkey bars we handle it all.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
1. Adaptability is key: As a mobile bar owner, I’ve learned the importance of being adaptable and flexible in response to changing circumstances.

2. Importance of communication: Effective communication with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders has been essential during this time. Keeping everyone informed about changes to my business, safety protocols, and any updates related to the pandemic has helped to build trust and loyalty.

3. Strong emphasis on hygiene and safety: The COVID-19 crisis has highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety in my mobile bar business. Implementing proper sanitation protocols has been crucial in ensuring the safety of my customers and employees.

4. Building a loyal customer base: During the pandemic, I learned the value of fostering strong relationships. Offering personalized experiences, special promotions, and supporting the local community have helped to build a loyal customer base that continues to support my business after the challenging times of COVID-19.

5. Importance of diversification: The pandemic has taught me the importance of diversifying my revenue streams and exploring new opportunities for my mobile bar business. Offering tastings, teaching classes for small groups and private events in addition to the normal weddings and birthday parties (which we still LOVE to do).

Overall, the COVID-19 crisis was a challenging time, but it has also presented valuable lessons that have helped me to adapt and thrive in the face of adversity. Through resilience, creativity, and a strong focus on safety and customer service, I have been able to navigate this crisis and emerge stronger as a business owner.
