Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramilia.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For almost 20 years, I am in music! Well, it all started when I was about 6-7 years old. I showed my parents my desire to play the piano. Then competitions, concerts, events, tours, it all became a part of my life. From very young age, I was convinced music is my future!
Remember my very first big music competition called “Enjeler” (pearls in English). It was all-Russian music contest where people from all around the country came to participate. I was just 8 years old. My teacher, even my mom, was not sure if I will be awarded and if it is a good idea to stay for the announcement of results. To which I replied: “I know I won. We should stay”. Long story short, I did win that day and was one of the youngest participants. I have no idea where that confidence and believe came from, but I am very proud of my little self! For truly believing in herself and pursuing her dream!
Now, I am an international singer, musician, and performer. My ethnicity is very unique I am Tatar and very proud to be and spread a word about our culture! I make sure that almost every my appearance on stage followed by at least one Tatar song. That is very important for me as a person. By the way, during NYFW, I was invited to give an interview about my Tatar language in the project called “Languages of NY.” It is a truly amazing project, and I was surprised that in NY is almost 800+ spoken languages.
2023 was a beginning of my new chapter called songwriter. So, into original music, working on a few singles of 2024 EP of original songs. Songwriting it’s a pure joy, therapy for a soul! Each song comes with different feelings, moments, and emotions, and every time you play it, an incredible feeling fulfills you from the inside out!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m sure every creative has their own struggles. What was mine:
I am the only and the first ever musician in my entire family. Sometimes, only a creative soul can understand what you’re going through and why you’re so emotional or so crazy about some ideas. I began to understand that I needed some side support, and my beliefs could get fragile under the pressure of society.
Creative journey is so unfair, it’s not even that much about your talent it is more about you being unstoppable, being persistent and consistent.
At the age of 14, for the first time, I stepped into the Big Concert Hall to perform solo. On the same stage with established musicians, composers, conductors like Sladkovskiy, Tamindarova, Denis Matsuev, Elmir Nizamov. What I heard from a lot of musicians after my achievements is that “you’re not a musician. To be a musician you have to have a 9 to 5 payed musical job”. I am teenager and still building my core. I heard that type of words quite some time, and it did touched my soul. Now, as I grew up, I realize it was jealousy. I am glad it did not stopped me from reaching my goals. So, my point is protect your belief in you as much as you can!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What I am proud of the most is that I am a risk-taker and a goal-digger. When I see some challenges, it becomes a game for me. I would say that I could even enjoy it, but not always, of course. When someone says “no” to my dream, it makes my desire to reach the goal even stronger.
My music has some therapeutic power that helps to fulfill and to act if there is a need of action. My every show and performance is about giving, fulfilling, and finding inner balance. Songs I write and choose to perform are always go through careful selection and aims to give the right emotion to the listener. The song “The Ocean My Power” is about balance inside of you and time with yourself, and the song “I Can” gives a push to act towards your goals.
By the way, I always forget that my music plays on the radio back home. And my family and friends remind me of that by sending me videos or saying, “we heard you singing last night”. That is truly heartwarming.
What is different about me I guess my loved ones would give the best answer… but in my opinion my desire to stay true to myself and the audience and be authentic everywhere and always makes the difference. At least I try to!
My life revolve around music. And it is wonderful!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Maybe the most surprising will be that I write scientific articles on the importance and benefits of singing and music in general. That topic truly fascinates me, so I want to spread the knowledge, information and studies on that. Science and music seems to be incompatible, but the truth is Music is a science but without clear rules.
My latest research was about the power of music, particularly singing, on physiological and psychological health and the effectiveness in treating depression. Surprisingly for a lot of us, music has positive benefits on mental and physical health. But we have to be careful what we listen to and feed our brain and soul with.
For example, vocal exercises have so much to offer: they can improve lung function, have the potential to relieve stress and anxiety, and even help to fight depression and loneliness. Singing also boosts endorphins, feelings of happiness, and a general sense of purpose and motivation in life. That’s what I am personally aiming to provide through my music. Motivation, inspiration, and sense of purpose in life!
