Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Rosen.
Hi Nicholas, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my travel blog during the Covid lockdown. I was trying to find a way to pass the time with a new hobby or passion project. A friend of mine had started a travel blog a few years previously, and I thought that would be something of interest to work on with my extensive travels. It slowly started as I learned the processes and strategies to have a successful blog and after a few years, it has taken off for me and is something I work on almost every day now in some way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the struggles I have faced is being knowledgeable and competitive in an oversaturated market. There are hundreds if not thousands of websites just like mine trying to be heard. You have those who started over a decade ago when the blogging industry was small and were able to have a bigger impact on readers. You also have those who are writing on the same topics on things like countries, cities, activities, and cultural history so it is a lot of duplicate information being given in only a slightly different writing style.
You also have those with large discretionary incomes who can invest more in their blog with ad services, software, virtual assistants, and social media experts. They can build up their brand both better and faster compared to others, giving them an edge in the blogging world.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write about my travels and experiences throughout the world. I focus on solo travel, budget travel, and travel itineraries from the cities and countries I have visited. These include my recommendations on tourist attractions worth seeing, places to eat while you are there, and how best to make use of the available time you have while traveling.
I am most proud of how much I have learned and accomplished with this travel blog. I joined a completely new industry I had no experience and have continued to learn and improve without feeling like it was going nowhere.
What sets me apart from others is just bringing my unique perspective on these places and helping to network and work with others in an industry that while competitive is also very friendly in sharing information, tips, and recommendations to help each other succeed.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I think what matters most to me is getting out of your comfort zone. Most people tend to stay in one or two places their entire lives and really do not try or even want to experience much of the world around them. Which I think is very disappointing. Society has set expectations on the standard go to school, find a job, have a family, two weeks of vacation time a year, and only really travel and get experiences in retirement. At least in the U.S. And now we are finally starting to move more and more out of that way of thinking.
