Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina DeRosa.
Hi Christina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey in the world of entertainment started in the most enchanting way – singing and dancing as orphan Annie in “Annie” and as a munchkin in “The Wizard of Oz,” right alongside a young Natalie Portman in Long Island, New York. The stage lights, the applause, and the magic of live theater became an integral part of my life from the tender age of eight.
In my house, Italian music was a constant presence. My dad, a gifted singer himself, often sang along. When I received that acceptance letter from The Boston Conservatory’s BFA program, complete with a scholarship for musical theater, I knew my destiny was calling. Every day was a whirlwind of singing, dancing, and acting, and my dreams were firmly set on the lights of Broadway in New York City.
However, God had a different plan for me. During my first year of college, a moment of unintended literalism turned my path in a surprising direction. Onstage, I took the expression “Break a leg” quite literally and broke my leg. The doctor’s verdict was devastating – I would never dance again. But I refused to let that prognosis define my future.
When someone tells me I can’t, it only fuels my determination to prove that I can. My injured knee became a catalyst for resilience and reinvention. I got accepted into UCLA’s prestigious School of Theater, Film and Television. My journey culminated with the achievement of a BA in Theater, Film, and Television.
Now, I proudly call the sun-soaked streets of Los Angeles, California, my home. This vibrant city, brimming with artistic opportunities, has become the backdrop for my ongoing love affair with the world of entertainment. It’s a place where dreams are pursued, stories are shared, and where the magic of creativity continues to unfold.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a bumpy ride, and now that Covid is mostly over and the strikes are finite, I am buckled up and ready for it all! With God, I have a partner to climb the mountain again.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I was born to entertain you with over 75 Film and Television credits. You have seen me starring in the Lifetime movie Drowning in Secrets, alongside Mila Kunis in Bad Moms, opposite Lily Collins in Inheritance, and TV shows Black-ish, Jane The Virgin, and Devious Maids, to name a few.
I wear multiple hats as the Executive Vice President of Film and Television at Kingvigor Inc. Talent Management and a partner of D.I.G Entertainment. Producing highlights include the horror film A Savannah Haunting and the award-winning series Doxxed alongside 2 Time Emmy winner Mary Lou Belli. Recently, I achieved a milestone by selling a faith-based script from one of the talented writers I represent. I am an active voting member of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and served on the Performers Group Executive Committee.
Beyond my career, I strive to be a humanitarian who can leverage my career success to bring more awareness to causes that matter to me. I serve as the chairwoman for the non-profit Face Forward International, and my heart is happiest when giving back. I believe Gratitude is the best attitude, and you will often hear me say, “Keep on keeping the faith.” Find me, inspiring you to be your best self on social media. www.christinaderosa.com
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Before the next pandemic…Travel! Life is indeed short and precious, a canvas for us to paint with love and vivid experiences. My 2023 trip to Catalina Island was a testament to this philosophy. A regular visitor, I found my latest journey there to be particularly enchanting, marked by a series of delightful firsts.
Embarking from Long Beach to Avalon via the Catalina Express, I found comfort in the familiar yet exhilarating journey, relishing the views from the Commodore Lounge. This time, I had the pleasure of staying at the Bellanca Hotel, a decision that added a new layer of luxury to my trip.
Adventure called, and I answered by parasailing with California Parasailing, a thrilling experience that had me soaring above the sea, and by ziplining across Descanso Canyon, where I zigzagged through the air on five exhilarating lines.
The VIP tour of the iconic casino, a first for me, was magical, and our tour guide was oh so wise. I also loved the novel experience of discovering the back roads of Catalina by driving a golf cart – a delightful change from my usual passenger role. Vacation calories don’t count, so I indulged in the sumptuous offerings of Naughty Fox, M Restaurant, Lobster Trap, and Bluewater Avalon.
This trip, just 36 miles across the sea, solidified my belief in the necessity of extensive travel; six months of vacation twice a year seems just about right. Catalina being a hop, skip, and jump away from Los Angeles, is one of the best-kept secrets I can share with you.
