Inspiring Conversations with Christine Craig of Designology Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Craig.

Christine Craig

Hi Christine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in a construction family; my grandfather was a stone mason from Italy, my great uncle and cousin had a construction company, and my aunt has her own construction company too. I joke that I was born and raised on a job site. When I was graduating from high school, I started school at a local city college and was going to major in screenplaywriting, really anything to not do what the family was doing. THEN the college started offering interior design classes and my boss at the time was moving and got me set up with a job with her friend who was an interior designer and it just kind of kept following. People always asking for advice, rearranging homes, and sketching stuff for the family so back into the design world I found myself, but this time I stirred a complete passion and knew I would be doing my own thing. I started my company in 2003 under CC Home Interiors and then changed it to Designology in 2007 and then rebranded as Designology Studio LLC in 2016.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ha ha ha! I think if you ask any business owner, they would tell you there is no such thing as a smooth road when you start a company. I have gone through market/housing crashes, imposter syndrome, employees moving and leaving, and general ups and downs that companies go through.

We’ve been impressed with Designology Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a small interior design firm that focuses on functionality first and the pretty second. I always tell my clients that there is no point in having a beautifully designs space if you can’t safely and functionally use it. My personal style leans more mid-mod infused with surf culture, or as I call it MID MOD SURF. We love bringing that aesthetic to our projects, but we always make sure to give the clients what they want and envision because at the end of the day we leave, and it’s their home and their money and I take that responsibility and trust very seriously. We love working with textures and colors and creating a happy place for our clients.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Put EVERYTHING in writing!
