Daily Inspiration: Meet Maria Scenna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Scenna.

Maria Scenna

Hi Maria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved to perform since I was a little girl. I grew up as first-generation Italian-American and an only child. To occupy my time, I watched a lot of television and liked to read. I used to take dance lessons, play the violin, and participate in chorus and acapella groups. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Creative Writing from Lesley University. After working in journalism for several years, I started recording my own music and transitioned into acting, which I moved to New York City for. Since then, I appeared in numerous films, TV shows, commercials, photo shoots, social media, and print campaigns. About a year ago, I moved to Los Angeles and have not only been in various ads, game shows, and fashion shows but have also helped with behind-the-scenes work, as well. I was a production assistant for U2’s latest music video, “Atomic City” in Las Vegas. I opened LA Fashion Week by walking in Richie Rich’s Richerette fashion line and booked a lead in a Werewolf Young Adult Drama for a streaming app called GoodShort. I also released a song this year called “Robot Girl.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an artist is a continuous challenge, but I’m up for the challenge! You may go for periods of time without working (such as during the pandemic or actor’s strike) and have to find other ways to make ends meet. Luckily, I’m versatile and adaptable and have always found alternate gigs, such as through my copywriting. Even when you’re not working, you should always be training, networking, updating your marketing materials, and applying to other gigs (as well as auditioning).

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Even though I’ve focused primarily on acting in the past several years, I’m also very flexible and multi-talented. I consider myself a good singer and dancer. I’m also very creative and an excellent writer and communicator. I believe all of my skills, combined with my strong work ethic and personable and funny demeanor, make me incredibly unique.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I believe every person I’ve met and the experiences I’ve had in my life have helped me to achieve the next milestone, whether that be in my career or personal life. I believe there’s a lesson in every experience, whether it be good or bad. So in that regard, I believe the people I’ve encountered, especially the helpful people, deserve credit and they know who they are.
