Life & Work with Kyrie Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyrie Thompson.

Kyrie Thompson

Hi Kyrie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I always had a love for fashion. It all started from my parents taking me to church and having to wear suits button-ups, ties, and slacks all the time all the time; figuring out how to keep my outfits interesting at church. I didn’t realize how much I was into it until after college and after working a few miserable truck-driving jobs. One day, I decided to quit truck driving and delivering packages to pursue my dreams after I realized it. Thanks to a good friend of mine, my mentor Aby Kane, she brought me to my first showroom to pull clothing for my first photo shoot & it was a success. I never even released the photos, but it just felt so good to do my first photo shoot and I cried about it and cried about it and I was just so happy. From working my first NYFW show, styling almost 50 models. I didn’t really know what I was doing, but I was a natural and it all worked out. The show was a success. That show propelled my career as a stylist, and everyone that I knew regarded me as Kyrie the Stylist. I then stepped foot into personal shopping, creative direction, creative consulting, and more. When I first started personal shopping, I was in SoHo, NYC every day, sometimes I had no money but I’d be hungry just looking for opportunities, connections, and knowledge. I introduced myself to everyone in Soho from the manager that Louis Vuitton to the sales advisors at Gucci & Kenzo. I gained a lot of traction from working on Daniel’s Leather shows, and being the coordinator of the show, and running backstage. I’ve had numerous clients ranging from celebrities to locals to people from across the country Like Bby Afrika from Los Angeles and people from all over the world like Clemens Klenk from Paris.

Now, I work closely with Maui X Lolita as their in-house stylist. While also doing editorial styling, personal styling, and creative consulting. I also model for fun which kind of makes me an influencer and I think that’s pretty cool. I’ve been on Zeus Network, The Today Show, DTF Radio, published in numerous magazines such as British Vogue, Rolling Stone, worldwide magazines, glamour, wonderland Vanity Fair, and Harper’s Bazaar to name a few. I always knew I’d be a star, but getting this type of recognition is the icing on the cake for me. I’m living my dream while still being hungry for more. I encourage everyone to find their purpose, and when you do pursue it to the fullest. While you’re doing it, you’ll be the happiest you’ve ever been.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a creative is never easy; sometimes you suffer from imposter syndrome. Sometimes you think you’re not good enough but even when you feel like you’re at your worst, you have to remember you’re working on being the best version of yourself. I’ve learned to overcome doubt and the fear of failing. Art can never be perfect, but it can always be beautiful, and I am a true testament to that statement because I stopped caring what people think about me and my art. That was the best decision I ever made. And of course, there was also a time when I was a starving artist in the very beginning. It was very tough, I literally had no connections but I put myself out there and asked a lot of questions and met a lot of people. Magically, I managed to form some really genuine connections in the industry that helped propel my future.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Fashion Styling (Personal and editorial), Creative, Consulting Creative Direction, modeling, and producing fashion shows are the most notable hats I wear. However, I am best known for Styling, Creative Direction, and my own personal style. I think what sets me apart from other creatives is the ability to create recurring euphoric visual experiences whether it’s styling, directing or producing. And I say recurring because there’s always more work on the way.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
